Christmas windows - fabulous. Trump Tower security - excessive.

We were there twice, December and January. Shop window displays are fantastic. Go over to Madison to Barney's and Tod's too.

Everyone must walk down fifth avenue even if you can't afford the exorbitant prices! It's just fun to walk into the stores and see things you won't see anywhere else!

All the names you can imagine. Trump Tower has immense armed security but still worth going in for a look at the lobby. A must is Tiffanys next door to the Trump tower, Ricketfeller Plaza and Sacks - all on 5th Avenue.

As a local New Yorker, I often walk to work along 5th avenue. The walk takes me up from Union Square to Central Park. It will only take you about 45 minutes and you will see lots of great shops, parks, architecture, and it is a good way to experience how the locals live.

If you even halfway love to shop, make sure to go to Fifth Avenue! It's a must do, especially with all the Christmas decorations!

Even a novice knows that you must walk up 5th Ave when visiting New York City. It's people watching and window shopping at it's best.

Lots of shopping, lots of walking. This is a very bust street but there is a huge amount to see and do, particularly Rockerfeller Plaza. If you’re in the city you can’t really miss it. There will be something for everyone here, not least shopping.

Like so many big city streets, 5th avenue has seen better times (there used to be more high end Department stores, e.g. Altman's and Bonwit Teller) but it's still has many attractions, not least Rockefeller Center, McKim Mead & White's fabulous University Club (at 54th st.) Saks original store, some beautiful churches and the legendary St. Regis, Gotham (Now Peninsula)... More

Very nice long street of shops and sights, an attraction in itself just to walk up or down 5th Avenue... Important for visitors that 5th Ave runs North to South and East and West Streets start from 5th Ave.. remember that and you will find your way around New York very easily

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
