The Flatiron Building has commanded the corner of one of the busiest intersections in lower Manhattan for over a century. It is worth risking life and limb to capture an image of this still-striking building and to marvel at the finesse of it's facade. A 'must see' for architecture, engineering and design students or indeed anyone interested in innovation.

This is one of the most oddly shaped and recognizable buildings in NYC just by it's shape. It is a beautiful tri shaped building located in mid Manhattan. You can get a great photo of this building from Bryant Park located just across the street from the Flat Iron Building

When you are in lower Manhattan, indeed visit the Flatiron Building if for no other reason to photo shoot its iconic end corner. Walking through Manhattan is my favorite past-time when in New York City. At one time this was one of the tallest skyscrapers in the City, 20 stories high.

Always been fascinated by the Flatiron through seeing it in print and film. It was even better in person. Well worth seeing.

This is, flat out (pardon the pun), one of the great, great sights of New York City. Its use of the triangular space it occupies, its external decorations, its height, and its setting all contribute to a majesty that is unequaled. After looking closely at the building and viewing the exhibit inside the main entrance, walk up Fifth on the... More

Nice bit of architecture. The nearby Madison Square Park had nice benches and shade for relaxing ( and a Shake Shak).

You have seen it in pictures and movies, but seeing it "live" it's a whole different experience. Stroll around Madison Square Park and have a burger at the original Shake Shack location.

There are many unique structures around the world and the Flatiron building is one of them. So drive by and take a look. What was the architect thinking? Who knows, but it appears he had fun. The Dancing Building in Prague, the Nakagin Capsule Tower in Tokyo or the Antoni Gaudi's buildings in Barcelona all left me with similar feelings..interesting... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighbourhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
