Neighbourhood: Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.

    Scaffold Clad
I was visiting New York City in October 2023 and the Flat Iron Building was one of the places I wanted to check out whilst I was in the area. Sadly when I got there I discovered that it is under renovation and it was completely covered in scaffolding. I could still make out parts of the building and its striking shape but I could not get any good pictures which I was a little disappointed about. It is in a nice area with a park nearby with plenty of places to sit and admire the passing activity and the architecture. Hopefully soon it will be back to its former glory.

    It’s ok.
One of New York icon building. Mostly walk around the neighborhood. Flatiron district I was here when it was a bit cold. Looks like place is hopping during spring-fall. It’s ok another budget friendly sight seeing place to go.

    Iconic
Beautiful & historic district in NYC! The Flatiron building is really amazing to see in person. As of Feb 2024 there appears to be work on the building with scaffolding on the sides. Still a beautiful view as well as many other iconic historical buildings all within a couple blocks to check out!

    Nice area, great building
Never really taken a good luck at this incredible building before. There's a small park at the thin end of the iron and we sat there in admiration. We got talking with a big guy smoking a cigar who used to be a guide and he pointed out all the famous people's 'houses' in the area. I won't specify but one was the second richest man in the world. Nice area to stroll around.

Iconic building, but be aware, it’s currently covered in scaffold
It’s an iconic building and one that I wanted to see in the city. It’s still worth it, just be aware it’s currently covered in scaffold. The small park at the narrow end has a nice aspect and is a great spot for people watching. Dog watching too, as it has a couple of fenced off leash dog areas.

Flatiron district is a bustling part of New York City and the highlight of the district, is the namesake building. The Flatiron Building is unique and makes for a rare sight. It is located in a heavily trafficked neighborhood with a number of restaurants, shops and Madison Square Park. Unfortunately during our visit, a portion of the building was covered in scaffolding, but the building still looked magnificent. It isn't nearly as tall as a number of other skyscrapers, but what it lacks in height, it makes up for in shape.

I wouldn't recommend going to the area just to see the building alone (there are a number of tourist attractions and eateries nearby), but if in the area, this is definitely worth a stop. The well-known Eataly is located opposite the Flatiron Building. Madison Square Park adjacent to the Flatiron Building is a great place to sit and take in some excellent views of the building!

This beautiful structure was the tallest building in the world for a brief time period. It was among the architectural "tests" to determine if internal steel skeletons could support (in practice) "high rise" buildings. It is not far from our Greenwich Village neighborhood and we never cease to marvel at its decorative facades when we pass by on our way to Madison Square Park.

I had an outstanding food and history tour with Justin at 10:30 am on November 6th. Justin did a great job of explaining the history. The food was also exceptional.
Justin did an outstanding job and I highly recommend him for this tour or any of the other food and history tours he does of New York City.

The flat-iron building was born long before Empire State and all other famous buildings even existed. In a city known for skyscrapers, its quite a unique design. What it lacks in height, it makes up big times in other areas. All tall buildings in NY are very easy to overlook even you're standing right in front of them but this one you can't miss because of its folded iron board shape. It has also proven to be very stable and aerodynamic despite its thin folded sandwich shape.

This was my 8th visit to New York City - my last was 19 years ago - and the Flatiron has always been a favourite of mine so I was so excited to see it again.

During the evening, I actually walked past it as it’s shrouded in scaffolding so was almost unrecognisable! During the day - and on a beautifully sunny, crisp wintry day, I sat on a park bench and admired it (obviously still sadly under scaffolding!)

Well worth a visit to admire the iconic structure and as it’s in a great and convenient location.

One of the city's landmarks located in Manhattan, NY. This building, which was completed in 1902, resembles an iron and was one of the tallest buildings of its time. It has an interesting architecture, the last few floors are decorated with columns. It has a very interesting, impressive and striking appearance. 5th Ave. It is located across from Madison Square Park. Sit in the park, relax and watch, you will like it. During our visit, maintenance work was being done on the exterior.

A very special and iconic building in Manhattan, which never fails to impressed. We stayed nearby on this visit and it was a joy to see the warm stone of this beautiful building everyday. Actually looks better at night at the moment as there is some netting and scaffolding which is less visible at night.

The Flatiron Building is a building that opened in 1902 as the Fuller Building in the heart of Manhattan, New York. At 87 meters high, this office building immediately made news. Its triangular shape, with a very fine tip, gives it a very fragile appearance. A shape that quickly earned him the nickname “flat iron”, the iron.
currently under construction, it is unfortunately almost invisible because hidden under a tarpaulin and the scaffolding... Fortunately, I could see it already several times without this packaging...
