The outside is all shrouded with opaque windows and building work but just push in one of the doors to a beautiful lobby. The skyscraper was built by Mr Chrysler (yes he did exist) and it is topped with steel. We only got as far as the lobby but the marble and wood paneling and the painted ceilings are magnificent.... I love this building, it's beautiful. But, unless you have business there you can't go in past the first few feet. Therefore enjoy it from afar but don't bother walking over to it.

We had a good view of the Chrysler Building at the corner of 42nd street and 5th Avenue. It is certainly one of my favourite buildings in NYC and very beautifully lit at night.

Sadly the Cloud club and observatory in this building are long gone, but you can still admire this building from the outside without security getting upset at you for taking pictures. During regular business hours, you can also go into the lobby, and they are okay with photo taking too. Management here is proud of their building and tries to... More

Beautiful architecture and art deco that only misses five stars because of the lack of internal options. Visit and then debate whether this or the ESB is your favorite.

Started in 1928 this NYC icon was once the tallest building in the world. There are a host of stories/ legends that go with it, but I suggest you look them up. Located East Side of Midtown Manhattan on the corner of 42nd and Lexington Ave. I felt the best angle for photos was in the morning on the corner... More

We accidentally went here instead of the Empire State Building. What a grand surprise. This is a jewel in the midst of New York City. William Van Alyn designed this building and it is truly the most beautiful building I saw in New York. The gargoyles were modeled after automobile products like the old Plymouth hood ornaments. We learned a... More

If visiting Grand Central station this building is opposite the Lexington Ave. entrance. Take time to visit this wonderful art deco building.

Visible from all over Manhattan. What a place. The ground floor used to be a car showroom. The use of marble and sculptural details everywhere.

one of my favorite buildings since child was the Chrysler Building, so when I visited NY I had to go. however although it was a bit disappointing since it can only reach the lobby because the building has no access to visitors, it is impressive. only takes a few minutes to take some pictures and say: "I was int the... Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
