We drove through this area on the way to Manteo, NC. It is a nice drive and we did see one large Alligator in the canal along side the highway. We had hoped to spend more time there hiking but didn't have the time. There...More

Coming here takes a little planning, but is worth it. Keep in mind, this is a wildlife refuge. It is meant to be, you know, a refuge. For wildlife. Not a tourist attraction nor an amusement park. I strongly suggest visiting the official website before...More

The reason we went out of our way to stop by this area (we were not staying on the outer banks) is because we want ed to see bears! After all the photos I saw posted online, I was convinced this was a common siting...More

Nature is so exciting when you are patient and wait, look and enjoy the moment. Don't hurry, you will enjoy a pair of binoculars if you have them. We arrived about 9:30a.m. a bit late for the morning foraging. Quickly we spotted a bear crossing...More

Drove around for 2 hours to see 3 birds and a dead raccoon. I saw more wildlife at the beachfront restaurant that I went to after this non-starter of a park. It's a great place if you like to be disappointed.

I almost skipped this attraction because I have no interest in Alligators - but it isn't about that at all. We visited at dusk and from our vehicle we observed several black bears, two racoons and deer. The Visitors Center which is not actually within...More
