Driving from Raleigh to ARNWR. Takes about 3 hours. Stopped at Pocosin Refuge Visitor center and collected maps/information. Took the trail at Sandy Ridge - was rather quiet but being in the open area itself is satisfying. Took the roads to the field area suggested...More

It's a great park with many animals. We drive trough it with our car and saw a bear. Also many bugs, so it was difficult to get out of the car without any mosquito war-attack.

Basically just large open fields. We did see a bear....off of 264 in the ditch. It was dead. Disappointing area.

I fully support the idea of wildlife refuges and conservation, and I love that there is a driving path. We didn't have anything to do on a rainy afternoon and decided to drive through. I found it sort of boring, with interminable gravel roads for...More

We enjoy hunting when we go on vacation, and this place was great. We don't hunt with guns, but cameras. It was July and a light rain was falling. We weren't sure what to expect. Boy were we surprised at the number of bears we...More
