Lovely little/not so little canyon with lots of history especially for the Navajo people associated with it. Enjoyed our self tour of all the lookouts over the canyon. Jeep tours also available from the Navajo people for ground tours inside the canyon itself. Wonderful surprise for us as we were just looking for somewhere to park for the night.

We spent a day doing the canyon on the east side and the white house ruin hike. Views were great. The hike took less than an hour each way, and we took a ton of pictures. Wear a hat if it's hot, not much shade. Saw the north canyon ruins on our way north. They were also spectacular. We loved... More

Canyon De Chelly is a living canyon. Not overcrowded, very personal scale, Navajo welcome and real. The jeep rides throughout the canyon are better than Zion or even Monument Valley. Oh, and did I say beautiful...at every breathtaking bend in the river. Both the north and south rim roads have great expansive overlooks. Lovely evocative ancient ruins. Stay at Thunderbird... More

We recently toured the Canyon De Chelly on a group trip. We were only scheduled to drive the rim but most of the group wanted to go into the Canyon which our tour guide was able to arrange. Fabulous and quite an adventure. The road in is a river wash which still has quite a bit of water. Bumpy but... More

You can visit this National Monument for nothing and drive the north and/or south rims during your visit. The North Rim Drive is best in the morning, the South Rim Drive has best views in the afternoon. This can all be done free and still have time to travel to your next destination. Or....you can stay at one of the... More

The views, the petroglyphs, the ancient ruins, the history, the current residents in the canyon, the water, the cliffs, the rim drives looking down are all just far beyond what I imagined and utterly spectacular. Fantastic scenery and so thrilled we were able to have a private tour and learn more about history, culture and Navajo traditions.

I have been to Canyon de Chelly several times over the years. I think the scale of the canyon makes is much more enjoyable than just standing on the rim of the Grand Canyon. You can hear the bells of the Navajo's sheep and goats as they graze on the canyons floor. The best time to take the South rim... More

I've been here twice now and am still awed every time I'm in the canyon. I love the history, the beauty and the area as a whole. Everyone is very friendly and have lots of knowledge.
