Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just a beautiful little church in Old Town San Diego. Construction began in 1868 but the current church wasn't completed until 1917 (due to funding, population movement to the south, and a fire which devastated Old Town). It is still an active church and serves around 300 regular attendees. Very beautiful.

Outside the church is rather impressive with a Mexican style architecture. The church is quite pretty inside with the blue sky/clouds/angels mural behind the altar and the many stained glass windows on the sides of the church. In the courtyard to the side of the church is a little garden with statues dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe. I visited and attended Mass. While just walking around at non-Mass times, the church wasn’t open.

Lovely church with doors wide open, welcoming anyone who wants to come in. Peaceful place, built to match the local architecture.

Nice to find this lovely old original Catholic Church open in Old Town so we were able to walk in and have a look around

The current church was built in 1868 after the original mission in 1769 which makes San Diego the oldest of all the missions

It is a fairly simple church but with some lovely paintings and icons - stained glass windows - and statues

There is also a lovely altar to Our Lady outside in the garden area

It is only a small parish with a small Catholic community so if you do go make a donation it is needed

Thank you

With all the tourist shops surrounding this little church, it was a welcome respite to slip inside and gaze at the stained glass windows and sit quietly for a moment. Beautifully maintained and serene, this is a great stop for a quiet moment away from the tourist clamor outside.

I discovered this gorgeous little church by accident while I was walking around in the Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. I was so glad I stopped in and I would recommend a visit to Immaculate Conception Church to anyone.

[The church is not technically part of the park, which explains why I couldn’t locate it in my brochure. If you’re at Old Town, just look eastward along San Diego Avenue and you’ll see it on the corner of Twiggs Street]

The interior is excellently maintained and has a décor consisting of paver flooring, wood (oak?) pews, white walls and dark wood ceiling vaults. The chandeliers—suspended by chains—are circular with white lampshades. The apse has a gorgeous depiction of a heavenly dove surrounded by angels in the clouds, all on a pale-blue background behind the crucifix. Note the excellent stained glass windows and the endearing statues of Mary in the alcoves. I absolutely loved this little church.

Beautiful, welcoming church. We visited the church while in Old Town, then went back the next day for Mass. Learn the history of the church and enjoy your visit.
