Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is one of many statues that is along the bay front water way and in Tuna Park. The statue is of a sailor greeting his wife after he returns from sea and is worth a quick stop as you walk by the waterfront.

The Unconditional Surrender
The Homecoming Statue
Tuna Harbor Park

These three places bring back a lot of fond memories. People from all over the world take photos of these two statues some even try to reenact them. People of this area will never understand their real meaning. When I look at this couple I see a young sailor returning from a 9-10-month tour away from home and a young wife that’s been home taking care of their kids and writing letters to her husband which he will not receive for three or more weeks.
Back in those days there was no internet, no skype and you could not afford to call home. Today our men and women still spend 9-10 months away from home but they get their e-mail and skype in seconds. I along with many others remember those days, 12 of my 20 years I would stand on the pier kissing my wife goodbye knowing it would be 10 months before I got my next kiss. Letters would come 4-5 at a time, a couple weeks between mail call.
As for Tuna Harbor Park. There used to be dozens of tuna boats home ported here, that is until the environmentalist put so many restrictions on them, they had to move to Panama and American Samoa.
I hope this will help you better understand our past.
Been there done that and proud of it.

It is a giant reproduction of the picture at the close of WWII. The picture of this statue is the old statue. The new statue is over 25 ft tall

Great place to talk history with children and honor the past Heros of this country. The view of harbor is wonderful too. Close to USS Midway.

This is a statue from a picture that is very famous. It was quite a sight. We took pictures of it from the Midway when we toured the ship and then walked down to the site to take pictures also. It was pretty awesome and so tall and large and I was not expecting that. Seemed to be a highlight for many people.

Although on a smaller scaler than some of the other statues in the area this is still worth seeing. It is quite charming.

A great rendition of a Navy man. If you are walking in the area, stop and see this. Beautifully done!

This is located near the Midway Museum on the parkway and depicts the sailor arriving home. This area for many times was the landing area to allow the sailors to do on leave.
Nearby is a monument for the USS San Diego and WW2 Aircraft Carriers built during this time. My fathers ship is listed there.
More to see and read about history other than this Statue
