The best rose garden we have ever seen is the International Test Garden in Portland, Oregon, but the rose garden in Balboa Park comes in a close second. When we visited in later September, we were treated to an array of beautiful and different roses in a well-maintained garden. We visited on a Monday afternoon, when all was peaceful and... More

Gorgeous rows of big bushes with huge double blooms. Most are sweet smelling and great time for photo ops.

This rose garden is on the edge of Balboa Park. When we visited it in early September, it was in full bloom and absolutely gorgeous. Plan to spend some time here.

We visited some museums in Balboa Park and walked across the bridge to visit the rose garden. There are so many different colors and varieties of roses in this garden it's breathtaking. Find a shady place to sit and enjoy the sound of silence

This is a wonderful place to stop and literally "smell the roses". They were in full bloom at the beginning of April. So many different types of roses. All different colors, sizes, smells, shapes...

A previous review stated there were not many foot bridges in San Diego however there are actually seven within the reach of the rose garden. Find the write up in the San Diego Reader featuring the Quince Street Bridge spanning Maple Canyon.

This area is extremely small, but extremely beautiful. It is also fun merely to walk over the footbridge to enter the rose garden as there aren't many footbridges in San Diego, so crossing it makes one feel that one is about to enter a place of stillness and solitude :)

This is an area that has a decidedly contrived rose garden (connected circles; one with a fountain in the middle) next to a densely packed cacti installation. If the roses are blooming you’ll want to hang around. I walk by here on my way to and from the desert garden, and always manage to get some interesting photos. If you... More
