Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One feels a sincere sense of pride when entering this former chapel. The stained glass windows are lovely. The displays contributed by many veterans are very informative. One cannot leave without a renewed awareness and appreciation for the sacrifices veterans have made for our country.

This is a small museum whose entry fee is a suggested donation. The building has some nice stained glass that they have incorporated veteran related imagery into.
The museum itself is small but you can tell it is a labor of love by the people who made it. There is some interesting information about the history of the armed forces in Balboa Park and a lot of personal artifacts that belonged to veterans.
The docent was friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely check the opening hours before you visit.

A wonderful way to learn about the men and women who have served our country. I particularly like the women in the military display. The greeter, a veteran, was delightful to talk to.

My husband and I are VETS and were REFUSED use of this museum's restrooms. We had a long drive, short on cash and couldn't pay to use their toilets. Only paying customers and VETS are only as good as the color of their $$$. We used the parks buildings restroom free of charge and the ladies who worked there were SHOCKED to hear how we were turned away. Do not support an organization isolation who cares NOTHING FOR VETS, they only want your money!!!

Sheldon Margolis introduced me to this museum in Balboa Park. It is a special place in a beautiful setting with history that you don't see elsewhere. It reflects the personal feelings of those who shared their history. The murals are unbelievable and the stained glass windows are beautiful and unique. Some of they are religious but most are military. I love the place and I will come back again and again. Will and Rod and the others who volunteer their time make you feel like a special visitor. Sheldon is quite the ambassador for the museum and after the visit I now share his enthusiasm. If you have a group and want to do a special service that will be remembered, I would strongly suggest that you get in touch with them. It is not only a great place but doing an event there is inexpensive.

This totally unique building is in Balboa Park near Inspiration Point. Easily recognizable as a former church complete with military-related stained glass windows, the building now houses a collection of war memorabilia. From 1941 to the early 1990s it was the chapel for the nearby vererans' hospital. A veterans' group saved it from demolitions and now manges it. Nothing for kids here, but anyone interested in military history or architecture should take a quick look. There is a small admission charge.

I was looking for a museum to schedule a field trip for the college course I was teaching and found the Veterans Museum & Memorial Center. On my initial visit, I was impressed by the set-up and information provided. I went ahead and scheduled the field trip and found out that a POW survivor would be present at that time. My students really enjoyed it. Pascale Schreiner was a great help with the scheduling process and provided good information. An added bonus was that the Tuesday we scheduled for was free for San Diego residents (view their website for details). I also recommend accessing their calendar on their website to see upcoming events.

Being a former chapel, the stained glass is a beautiful tough for this museum for veterans. A definite stop on your visit to the area!
