I've never been to the Mingei, though I've frequented the other art museums numerous times. It was "free Tuesday" and my sister wanted to go with our niece, so I went along. We arrived at 10:30 a.m., the museum was semi-packed. But I enjoyed browsing,...More

We enjoyed the exhibition of kanban (antique Japanese signs), quite a spectacular collection. Allow a couple of hours to browse this unique museum.

This is a relatively small museum, but still interesting and fun. The Kanban exhibit was very interesting and the folk art was cool. A new exhibit, "Trappings" is coming as of tomorrow. They have a few pieces of Chihuly glass work. We got a discount...More

They have fun events. Exhibits change regularly so recommend checking what they have on display before going. Great gift shop.

Small, easy to see and appreciate, the current exhibition of knotted jewelry us glorious! It is beautifully curated and displayed. One of the best museum shops ever!

After using our Go SD pass card for entry, the woman at the desk kindly asked (quite suggestively urged) that we hand over our backpacks for fear of us bumping into something. Her facial expression seemed to be concerned about us bringing a 5yr old...More

Loved this museum. The displays, the flow, and the art! So interesting and beautiful! Oh my, you just have to see all they have to offer. Just unusual collections that I'd not seen in all my travels. Don't miss.

Always a new experience when visiting the Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park. This trip included the art and history of Japanese lacquers bowls, fascinating. Also, there is a exhibit of children's toys, from bygone times. An amazing "doll house", a "Palace for Wednesday". You...More
