This gem in the middle of Balboa park was an unexpected find. The private collection of Italian, French and American art has some wonderful pieces, and the icon collection is quite special. Also an exhibit of Monet's work from the north coast of France was...More

Despite its modern square box look that clashes with the Spanish architecture of most of the rest of Balboa Park, this free museum (by donation only) is a true gem. We always love to spend time with the Russian icons in one of the galleries;...More

If you enjoy fine art, do not miss the Timken Museum. It is free! You can add an audio tour for a small fee, however, we didn’t take advantage of this due to time limitations. It is a small museum with works divided by Italian,...More

The Timken Museum of Art is a must see attraction in Balboa Park! It is small in size, but not in quality, exhibiting many virtually priceless classical masterpieces. It has always been free, but of superior quality and beautifully presented. Bring the children; expose them...More

Out of the 17 museums (15 according Balboa Park Conservancy own brochure) Timken museum is the only free admission one. But dont let the "Free" fool you thinking it's not worth the visit. You can easily spend more than an hour here even if you...More

What the Timken may lack in size it certainly makes up with the shear quality of its exhibits which are beautifully displayed. As other reviewers have remarked it is a peaceful haven within Balboa Park.

Nothing is free these days! Timken Museum must want to encourage people to enjoy and appreciate art--why else would it be free? If you can afford it, give a donation in appreciation. We thoroughly enjoyed this small museum because it was small and we didn't...More

This free museum was one of my favorite sites in Balboa park. For a small museum, they have a pretty significant collection (including a couple of well known Dutch masters).

The Timken Museum is a jewel box at the heart of Balboa Park. With its modern box architecture thw timken stands out and belies its interior that houses an excellent collection of Russian icons as well as some strong European and American 19th century paintings....More

The collection is small but interesting. The paintings are organized by country of origin - French, Italian, Spanish, etc. No modern art here - the works are from the 1300s through the 1800s. This museum is free, so it's a good way to see some...More
