My rating is a reflection of what I felt walking through the Japanese Friendship Garden in February at dusk when there were few visitors. I felt completely at peace. I saw flowers, ponds, large rocks, colorful fish, Japanese structures, and artwork. I heard the sound...More

Absolutely worth going. Delicious Udon also. The garden is located in Balboa Park which affords you plenty of other opportunities. There are other gardens, museums and parks.

This is a very relaxing way to spend an hour or two in Balboa Park. We were lucky on our visit, and it was comfortably crowded. I personally wouldn't come during the Cherry Blossom Festival, for example, because it's mad crazy. As much as I...More

The Japanese Friendship Garden, in Balboa Park, is a 'must-see' spot. It is named "'San-Kei-En" which means "Three Scene Garden: Water, Pastoral, and Mountain". Peaceful paths allow visitors to experience inner peace and serenity as you stroll through the beautiful gardens.

This garden has its ups and downs. The path around the gardens itself, goes a ways downhill and the layout is quite nice. Coming back up can be a bit hard with a whole lot of people coming down. There could be more seated areas...More
