Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

My husband and I visited the zoo in August 2017. We were worried about it being overcrowded since we were there during peak summer season but that was not the case! While it was very busy, it didn't feel packed since the park is laid...More

This zoo is among the best I’ve visited. I utilize their website in my classroom and wanted to see their ambassadors in real life. The zoo has a great bus tour as well as the kangaroo bus which is hop-on hop/off. There is an aerial...More

We visited in January so it was less busy. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, the Zoo is clean and has lots of interesting animals. An afternoon was perfect for us.( wear comfortable shoes as it is quite hilly).

This zoo is amazing, it covers a very large area so I would definitely recommend spending a full day here. All the animals have a lot of space and there are a lot animals that live here that you would not normally have the opportunity...More

The San Diego Zoo is VERY disappointing. It is difficult to navigate, dirty, and extremely overpriced. The entry ticket of $54.00 is outrageous for what is offered. We had a meal at Alberts in the park, which was poor quality and also expensive. It is...More

I love visiting zoos across the US and this is definitely one of the better ones. Loved the driving tour option and the focus on conservation.

I'm not one for caged animals confined in small areas just so people can see. However, you don't feel that at this zoo. I wouldn't call them cages, but micro-environments. Thought and care was put into creating little oases for the animals. The zoo is...More

It lives up to its name 150%. If you’ve never been, you should go. It’s the most impressive zoo I’ve ever been to. The afternoons get busy so go in the morning to avoid some of the crowds. Super fun time!

We arrived at opening so we're able to see a lot of animals as they were being released and fed. The maps are really confusing and don't really indicate areas that are hilly (quite a lot) which will wear you out quickly. After we did...More
