Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

We took the family for a trip to the zoo while on vacation to Legoland. Love the zoo and it is such a unique place. The temps were cooler than the surrounding areas because of all the shade. The polar bears are a must see along with the pandas. One of the best zoos in the USA so if you... More

Tickets were quite expensive but the zoo was great! We were there early in the morning, right when they opened, which I would definitely recommend since it gets very crowded later in the day. If you go there early, go see the Pandas first, as they apparently are the main attraction, and there was a huge line in the afternoon.

The zoo is fantastic! We first rode the free tour bus around the zoo to get an idea of its size and location of animals. This was great because we also learned more about the zoo's mission. Then we did a lot of walking to our favorites, but paths and maps were easy to follow. There also is a Express... More

If you have children this is a must must do. Teaches a little conservation, very important. Good healthy restaraunt choices

You can't spend time in San Diego without visiting the "world famous" zoo. It's a rule. First of all, if you're staying downtown, the #7 bus drops you right at the zoo, NOT the #2 OR the #7 bus as Google suggested. You'll need $2.25 each in exact change. The zoo itself is extensive and appears to make every effort... More

We got to the zoo just after it opened. What I recommend to do first is take the double decker bus tour. It was included in our tickets we purchased from the GO City Card. There was a line but it moved fairly quickly as they have more than one bus. This will give you a view of the entire... More

A gorgeous zoo and a special place to learn about conservation. Animals are first and education is a close second. Head here for an entire day or pair with balboa park. You will not be disappointed.

We visited San Diego with family over the summer. The zoo was one of our visit highlights!! It was a fabulous experience. Incredibly well maintained, lots of good food options and facilites, specially with kids. The animals are very well kept. Lots of well versed staff to answer questions and make recommendations. The panda trek, polar bear plunge, leopard run,... More

Upon entry we decided to take the bus tour. It was a 30 minute wait to get a bus despite a short line. And then it took another 20 minutes to get rolling as they had to fill every single seat. Panda was best part of the zoo. No Galapagos turtles, several other animals had empty cages too. Not like... More
