Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

Third visit here over the years. They do an excellent job and contribute to so much research and conservation. Volunteers are very friendly and helpful throughout the park. Clean and the opportunity to see many unusual species, animal, floral and fauna. Loved the more unusual - koalas, pandas, hippos, condors. We always struggle with knowing the animals are captive and... More

The SD Zoo is one of my favorite places to go while in the city. Not much to say really, it's a zoo. You see cute (and not so cute) animals! I always have fun there.

It's a big zoo, you can easily spend the entire day there. We booked a behind the scenes tour with the pandas which was fantastic. Having your own guide for two hours and being transported around on a golf cart was a blast, well worth the cost. There will be thousands of people, concession prices are steep. $4.50 for a... More

By far the best zoo around. The whole family loved it. Where else can you see Koalas, Tasmanian Devils, Polar bears, and Pandas at the same zoo? They also have a 30 minute bus tour which was great. Takes you around the entire zoo. We also rode the aerial tram which was a nice way to go from one side... More

Being from Pittsburgh, PA I am accustomed to a terrific zoo and aquarium. I was delighted at the exhibits the San Diego Zoo offers because of the amount of space they have to house the animals. Every exhibit provides facts about the animals so that children and adults alike are learning. There is no shortage of care and attention for... More

We went on President's Day so there was a lot of people, but the place was great! My kids loved seeing all the animals. The tram ride was a great intro to he zoo. Beware there are a lot of up and down hills if you have a stroller. The other bus that makes stops around the zoo is great... More

First visit was at least 15 years ago and I had positive memories. Since then I've been to the zoo in Sydney, New York City and Washington DC. Sorry to say SDZ doesn't compare. Too many exhibits were either empty or under construction. Too many exhibits had one example of the species....one kangaroo, one lion, one gorilla and so on.... More

We took the kangaroo bus and the longer bus ride. We sat on top and I would recommend it. We got good views of some of the animals. Overall, I particularly liked the flamingos. They were amusing when they strutted back and forth in their enclosure. The orangutans were fun to watch. The zoo has wonderful botanical gardens which I... More

Spent the day at the zoo that started with the "breakfast with Pandas" tour. Our guide Zak was excellent and gave great details and fun stories.
