Top ways to experience South End and nearby attractions

The area

Neighbourhood: South End
Stroll down the beautiful brownstone lined streets while capturing views of Boston’s tallest buildings from a distance. Some of Boston’s best restaurants are scattered around this neighborhood. There are many gems to be found, from jazz clubs to classy bars and restaurants. It is also home to art galleries, interesting boutiques, artsy stores and SOWA open market during the summer months. The South End is a true find in the city, with a more residential feeling than Back Bay.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is one of the older neighborhoods in town and much of the old architecture has been preserved. So find a walking tour and wander around. It's not too big and is safe, in spite of a sketchy past. Full of Yuppies now.

I am not a city person but the south end is just great. Beautiful old churches, food restaurants on every corner, theater on Tremont Street.
I was in Blackstone Square the other night and they had a six piece horn section band that was great. During the day the square is a walking park for dogs. Popular eatery Flour is right next door to the park. Not as busy as the North End but just as nice.

We walk this area almost every time that we fly into Boston. I prefer walking this district in the evening (no matter the weather). The shops may be closed but the windows are usually charming, the pubs and restaurants are plentiful and the atmosphere has always struck me as romantic even more so with a light dusting of snow. If you are not sure footed and accustomed to city walking, skip the stilettos. Many of the roads, sections of walkways and stoops are not uniform, cobbles, granite or all of the above!

Tremont Street is a gem! Great restaurants, shops, beautiful churches and more. Stayed near the Prudential Tower on Huntington and was a short walk. Spent a lot of time in the South End this visit because of the 2017 Marathon activities -- but a must visit anytime you are Boston.

This is such a cute, neighborhood, the food is good in some restaurants! Check the reviews first if is authentic, because the second restaurant I visited the food was just not authentic (Olive garden is better)! I can't remember the name but just do a little research as the food can be quite pricey.

Have fun!

While in Boston for a week on business, I chose to stay in south end as it was still easy to get everywhere I needed, but was outside of the busy downtown.

One of our road trip stops, was really nice. Loved the old streets. The buildings are so different compared to South Florida, love them bricks. Recommend.

One of the posh places in Boston. Good place to visit for window shopping and checking out the galleries in olde Boston. Cobblestone streets, brownstones, great restaurants. Fun place to explore.

My husband and I stayed at a B&B in the South End, so we had the area to explore for a full four days. We loved the cobblestone streets, brownstone homes and buildings, eclectic mix of fun and funky shops and restaurants, as well as a good, solid offering of grocery and pharmacy stores. We walked for two miles one day and discovered quite a selection of Asian food stores. We weren't sure if we had walked out of Suth Boston into China town, but if so, they are closely connected. We found we were able to take long walks along streets that felt neighborly friendly.
While Beacon Hill, Cambridge, and some of the city center spots have their high points and special points, I enjoyed staying in what felt like a friendly neighborhood surrounded by the amenities of a large city.
