I'd never visited the ICA before, but a recent First Friday event caught my attention and I thought I'd check it out. $18 gets you into a cool, casual evening of music, drinks, performances, and contemporary art. The 3rd floor was closed for exhibit installation that evening, but there was a great general show on the 4th floor, as well... More

We went to the museum on a whim while in Boston for a day trip. It ended up being free admission that day! Even if it wasn't free, we would have gladly paid. This place is AWESOME! The atmosphere was very inviting. There was staff at every exhibit and they were very friendly and helpful. Answered any questions with a... More

It amazes me that such a beautiful building should have such consistently lack-luster exhibitions. It seems to make its money as a party venue on the water. As 45 might say, sad.

I'm not an art buff but so much here to get you thinking. Some "hits" and some "misses" but others might have a different reaction. Easy to find on the waterfront in an area that seems to be developing with hotels, bars and restaurants. An easy walk on a nice day from downtown. Helpful staff at entrance and in galleries although... More

First: there is nothing wrong with this museum. It has a nice collection of contemporary art, just like it says it does. I love the building: the architecture of the building is truly amazing and so is the interior design, including the bathrooms and the cafe-area. However, I was a bit disappointed that the actual art exhibit was only one... More

I visited the ICA with friends last weekend. Good place to spend a couple of hours viewing the exhibits on the fourth floor. Some work is better than others. I enjoyed Steve McQueen's video exhibit entitled "Ashes", which showed the craft of building grave site in the Caribeean. Excellent view of the harbor from floor to ceiling windows. The ICA... More

It is a museum that's architecture is better than their collection. It has a nice snack bar operated by the Wolfgang Puck crew. but it can be slow. It is pricey and not near public transportation.

Since is my forth visit to the city, I was looking for new things to do. The Institure of Contemporary Art has a beautiful architecture, amazing interior spaces and views, which make me recommend the visit here. The art collection is just on the last floor and is small. I'm not a fan of this type of art, so I... More

Staying in Seaport District / South Boston Waterfront

Neighbourhood Profile
Seaport District / South Boston Waterfront
This area has been expanding and becoming more and more popular, for good reason. Not surprisingly, the seaport district of South Boston is located beautifully along the water. The area is designed for easy strolling along the HarborWalk, and there are bars and restaurants for all ages and budgets. The Institute of Contemporary Art is located in this area in a contemporary building with an absolutely stunning deck overlooking the water. In the summer time there are Friday music concerts on the deck of the museum. Nearby, there are many green spaces to enjoy.
