Traveled by private boat and the views were great. The joy was in the constant changing scenery as the boat moved about the harbor. The islands are so different from each other. Some have forts and lighthouses.

If you find yourself in Boston, with time, and good weather, hop on a ferry and get out to one of the islands.

The best vacations are often right around the corner from where you live. You don't have to go far for a good experience. Save money, save gas, take the family.

We went on the Harbor boat to the harbor islands and stayed out there all day! Great places to picnic, run around, see the old fort or go to a small beach. It was a lot of fun and not too much money,

Because of the ferry schedule it's difficult to plan a short trip. I'd recommend George's island - head out in the morning, explore the fort (a highlight) and back in the afternoon. Unless you have your own boat and can... More

Maybe. Best to check with the National Parks service Boston area. Know that there is a fun, spooky Halloween event on the island with the fortress very soon.
