This was a typical visit to a local place that none of us had ever visited. Three of us in our 50s grew up in MA, plus my 20+ year old son, took the ferry from Hingham. We were overwhelmed by Fort Warren and explored...More

George's Island was a fun spot for a picnic and some exploring. Heading over by ferry is easy and relaxing. There was a female staff member in the museum area when we first arrived that was the most friendly, but we were soon approached by...More

This little island is simply gorgeous. Almost its entire area is covered by old fortress, which is freely accessible for your own discovery or you can join free rangers guided tour. Plus it offers amazing views to the sea, Boston and surrounding islands. There is...More

A super day! The ferry ride is classic fun! The island itself is simply fascinating. One can delve into the history of the island or simply explore the unique fort and grassy lawns. The snack shop was crowded and poorly staffed during our visit and...More

Quite apart from the lovely (and very reasonable at $17 return ticket) boat trip out to the island, this is a thoroughly interesting place to visit. When you arrive you should make sure you watch the brief film (about 9 minutes long) in the Welcome...More

Nice boat trip to the island (50 min from Boston downtown). Interesting historical site - an old Civil War Prison. Quiet, fun to explore, easy to ride to other islands.

A serene and secluded island to spend your day. To be honest I am surprised so much of the fort has not been maintained and is being allowed to rot away. Seemingly vast areas while not locked or roped off appear to being claimed by...More

North End
Wandering around Boston’s North End can feel like
being transported to Europe. Stroll down Hanover and
Salem streets for the finest Italian restaurants,
bakeries, cafes, and a few boutique shops. Take part
in the big debate as to whether Modern Pastry or
Mike’s serves a better cannoli. Before your food coma
sets in, make sure to stop by historic Paul Revere’s
home, and follow the Freedom Trail to Old North Church
