The Basilica of Saint Lawrence holds daily masses and also has weekend tours after mass. A beautiful church with a fascinating history. Well worth the visit!

Adorned with a wide variety of sacred art from many regions of the world. Makes for a bit of a jumble, but the overall effect is pleasing.

Beautiful architecture. Stained glass windows depicting the life of Christ were explained by docent giving the tour.

Very peaceful & serene. Supposedly biggest freestanding dome in USA (to my understanding, biggest dome similar to this is reported to be Blue Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey).

This basilica is not large, but the domed roof is quite impressive, as is the other art. Parking for services is in a lot across the street, which may or may not be there much longer. The Civic Center and its garage are close at hand. Small gift store.

While visiting Asheville, we stumbled upon this gem in the foothills of the Smokies. What a special treat to find this architectural church. The tile and mortar building system is beautifully represented in this seldom seen technique in this country. Not only is this building system beautifully displayed, so are all the other artful appointments. A very pleasant find.

This was a great surprise - largest freestanding elliptical dome roof in the US, using no steel or wood. Constructed using stone and layers of tile and mortar. Stained glass windows are lovely.

Thank Laura G
