This trail (about 1 hour round trip - 45 minutes if you are in shape) offers both a river access point to Rio Grande, and a magnificent overlook on the top of a low mountain, with gorgeous views of the river valley. If you do only one hike, make it instead the Santa Elena Canyon, and if you do only... More

Beautiful hike! Easy enough to do with kids and gorgeous views at the top. There's another little offshoot to the hike you can take to go down to the river too.

We ended up on this trail by chance as we were in the area to see Boquillas Canyon - the park ranger at Panther Junction recommended we stop by and wail this trail and I'm glad we did. It's a short trail but I was surprised how quickly the terrain changed - we walked through a few boardwalks that had... More

This is a short walk from the campground but worth it to see the sunset from the top of the overlook. Be sure to look in all directions during the sunset as the view of the glow on the Boquillas Mountains is wonderful!

My wife and I hiked this trail while camping the RV section of the park. It was a very pleasant walk that included a high loop for those wanting to walk uphill for the views of the river and Mexico. Quite a few birds were seen including rock wren, sage thrasher, and phoebes of two types. Total length less than... More

(Warning: Young adults from Central Florida visiting for the week) We purposefully entered this hike with the intention of capturing the sunset- you can see it sink all the way to the horizon. As the sun set, the view behind us of various ledges and hills were cast in an ever-changing array of shadows and dark colors- very pretty. EASY... More

Ok so not completely literal, but its a great hike. Our road trip continued with a stop at big bend and a stay the Rio Grande Village. You get great views of the river and its best to go during sunset. Don't forget the bug spray.

Short walk with easy access from RGV campground. Goes over some swampy areas next to the river than ascends a small hill with great views of the Rio Grande and Mexico. Beautiful sunset. Lots of wildlife too - we saw plenty of jackrabbits near dusk. It is also a great spot for birding.

We hiked this trail through the jungle up the hillside to great views of the canyon and the town of Boquillas, Mexico across the river. Along the way there were handmade items that were left for purchase that are familiar to the area such as walking sticks, wire scorpions and cactus. It does get hot here even on an October... More

We visited this trail while visiting Big Bend in Nov 2016. This trail is accessed in the Rio Grande Village campground near site #18. Just as an FYI there is also a campground bathroom near the entrance. The trail starts on a boardwalk and heads along the Rio Grande and up a small mountain. Along the way you will be... More
