All the movies filmed in this area
Had a great time looking at old movie stills, stars and directors who’ve shot sequences in Moab, along the Colorado River, and in Monument Valley. There’s a 30-minute documentary about how the movies came to this area. Note: museum is downstairs at Red Cliff Lodge.

We found this museum by accident through a Goggle search of museums in Moab. What a find…it is hard to imagine how many movies and commercials have been made between 1925 and the present in the National Parks in Moab to Monument Valley. John Wayne westerns of course, but Thelma and Louise, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, to name a few. Definitely a must see as a down day from hiking.

Fascinating Look at Moab's Movie History!
This great little museum outside of Moab was worth the drive! We were particularly interested in the John Wayne/John Ford movie displays, and it was so fascinating to see how many of these old westerns were made on this property and in this part of Utah! The admission to the museum was free, too! We'll definitely visit next time we're in Moab!

A lot of interesting information packed into this space. Plus the area of the lodge is stunning. Amazing how many films were done in this location.

If you've got an hour and love Western films, don't miss this small museum in the lower floor of Red Cliffs Lodge. Watch the short introductory film and then browse the extensive collection of film memorabilia.

The museum's located in the lower level of the Red Cliffs Lodge, at mile post 14 on the scenic byway. Highlights roughly 50 years of classic film-making not only at the lodge site and in the canyon you're driving through, but more broadly in the area including Monument Valley and Arches National Park.

Most interesting part of the museum is the engaging 28 minute film of local film organizers, actors, and others describing how various films were made, including the classic Thelma and Louise.

More meaningful to baby boomers with long memories of films than to kids, for whom there'll be no recognition of the classics, except possibly for Indiana Jones or Back to the Future.

Moab Museum of Film and Western Heritage is in the Red Cliffs Lodge, at Milepost 14 on SR 128. The museum—part of Red Cliffs Ranch, a working ranch in operation since the late 19th century—houses memorabilia relating to the film industry, along with displays that depict cowboy culture.

The 28 minute film is very informative so don't miss it.

My husband and I learned about this museum from the employee at a coffee shop in Mohab. We enjoyed watching the movie in which actors. producers and extras talked about their experiences making movies in Utah. The discussion about Thelma and Louis was fascinating.
