I asked a ranger at Canyonlands National Park for a map of The petroglyphs in the area. These were amazing and so cool to see up close and personal, and from the road too. These truly are a highlight of my trip today! Wow.

Was pretty fun. Did this drive when it was too hot to really be outside (thank god to air conditioned cars!) Saw petroglyph, dinosaur prints, and took up views of the canyons. would recommend for any ages because everything is accessible.

We had heard that this was a beautiful drive down 279 out of Moab, and it did not disappoint. We drove in the late afternoon, taking our time to look at the amazing rock formations with no traffic whatsoever. There is a sign to show...More

This was a very nice ride along the water with excellent Rock Art that was clearly visable from the road.

We found it so incredible that there are so many of these ancient sites with amazing petroglyphs that aren't really protected in any way. Unfortunately we did see some on our travels that had been marred by grafitti. Surely it would be possible for a...More

We were on potash road when we came across the sign announcing these rock art petroglyphs. We pulled over, got out of our vehicle and followed the signs. We looked and looked but found nothing. Finally my wife looked way up on the side of...More

In retrospect this little ride down #279 was a high light of my 3 days in Moab. It had all the spectacle of the rocks of Arches National Park with 1% of the people. Majestic rock cliffs along the Colorado River - towering above you...the...More

There aren't a huge number of petroglyphs here, but they are right off the highway, no hiking involved. Well worth a side trip to or from the national parks.

I am having trouble finding this road on the map. On Google 279 appears to follow the Colorado River. I can find the Potash Road Dinosaur Tracks and Petroglyphs. Is that the location of the petroglyphs or are the more easily seen on what appears to be a gravel road or turnouts that are accessed opposite from Williams Bottom? Could someone give an approximate mileage distance from Moab? Thanks very much.

That's the one - as you leave Moab heading towards Arches - 279 is on the left. It follows the Colorado River on the left (nice views) and it is a cliff on the right. You will go by cliff climbers first and then there will... More

how far do you have to drive in before you start seeing them? I went on google maps and put the little guy onto the road and never once saw a sign. I think I went into it pretty far..

The ride is not that far. The Native American drawings are before you get to the parking lot where you can see the dinosaur footprint. But there are no signs marking the drawings, so you have to keep a sharp eye on the... More

Great views for mobility challenged folks. I know it's far from your situation, but we took our disabled Corgi in his stroller.
