This starts with a fun but technical downhill to a creek crossing, then a long climb to the top, complete with a view of the potash production across the valley. There is plenty of exposure and great views. The ride down is a blast - double track road (complete with an amazing 4x4 on occasion, what the 4x4s call Cliffhanger),... More

The trails in Moab get steeper, longer, more rugged, and more scenic... but Amasa Back is a great ride for the whole range of skill levels. Importantly, Amasa Back is the connector trail up to Captain Ahab, which is a really fun loop. If you're in Moab shape. You may be in good shape where you live and work, but... More

I rode from town, so didn't have so much time nor energy to do a big loop. My tracker showed just under 4km for the Hymasa and Cliffhanger Loop portions I rode. I'm probably an intermediate rider and walked a few short sections. In particular, I'm not adept at riding in deep sand, but it was fun to try. Also,... More

Classic ride with an amazing view at the top looking over the Coloredo. Not my favorite, especially with Hymasa as a more user friendly option. Better as a downhill ride than uphill.

The must do trails at Amassa back are Hymasa and Captain Ahab. Captain Ahab is downhill only and for good reason. Initially you will be sharing the trail with ATV'ers and motorcyclists but don't let this turn you off as the trails eventually separate if you choose to do so. Even if you don't get off the main trail, all... More

Love the new singletrack that follows and crosses the jeep road. So much fun and not terribly technical but it is uphill so good lungs and legs are helpful! For a more challenging ride head back down via the more difficult trail (Captain Ahab) or jeep road. If you want fun and fast turn around and go back the way... More

First, you picture of the Monitor and Merrimac, not Amsma Back. It is usually a wild, very wild jeep ride that I walked. Not for the faint of heart.

I tried Slickrock and my boyfriend did Porcupine (but it was too difficult for me) and I definitly prefered Amasa ! It was hard (I'm intermediate/advanced) but I enjoyed it more than slickrock because you first climb up then down and on your way down it's very very fun !!! The view at the top is amazing.
