This is your backstage pass to the coolest area in the universe! Stroll through the cosmic history of it all, from rock’n roll to art, fashion and architecture, this fantastic walking adventure gives you real insight into the cosmic draw of the Haight-Ashbury! The tour is approximately 60% hippy history and 40% general neighborhood history and architecture, but it is always 100% ‘far-out’ fun! Saunter along the same streets that Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, Joni Mitchell and countless others etched their marks into the collective alternative culture and creativity of the 20th century! Approximately 12 blocks, final destination 2 blocks from the point of origin. A poetic and symbolic act of retracing the footsteps of so many, returning with greater understanding and heightened consciousness.

Very informative. Stan was the best. He had so much first hand info on the hippie movement and the local musical talent that is a part of the history of these few blocks in The Haight.

The tour is very detailed , peppered with specific stories of the famous people who lived there. However I didn't understand most of the stuff because I was simply not aware of the happenings during that era. I thought I could get the basic history...More

I enjoyed this tour - it was a good way to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the summer of love. While I expected a lot of information about the music, I liked that our tour guide gave a broader historical overview of the area's diversity....More

Lots of great historical nuggets. I really appreciated the fact that the tour covers much more of the area's history than just the 1960s, even though that's the reason I took the tour. Our guide, Stan, was very knowledgeable. My teenager daughter was bored, but...More

Great tour with a real historian. I learned more than I was expecting. Our guide had photos to help explain events. This was an excellent way to learn about the neighborhood.

Stan was an amazing wealth of information about the area. I wish he would have spoken a bit slower, so we could follow what he said better. I enjoyed the mix of history with information about how the community is so socially responsible for folks...More

Haight-Ashbury
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and
Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of
the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage
clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops.
While the Summer of Love ended decades ago,
Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of
hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through
its streets can still feel like stepping back in time.
