Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I never knew the name of this hill, but visited it regularly when living in the Haight in the 1970s. It’s a beautiful view! Take the walk if you have time.
I wasn’t sure this was the hill of memory until I noticed in one of the reviews that the reviewer had walked up Schrader St., the street I lived on back then.
Coincidently, I wrote a poem about the view, which originally appeared in Open Thought Vortex and is now in my second collection, Having Lived. I hope it provides some inspiration.
The Star
I’d never met another on that steep hill’s summit.
Wild flowers grew as they would along a country lane:
sunset highlighting petals.
I stood on jagged rock, vastness of skyline and bay below.
A star appeared through sheer clouds: that instant
the past seemed no more
than an empty page.

Great, tucked away, little place to get a wonderful view of the city. Much less crowded than Corona Heights or Twin Peaks, with just as nice of a view (perhaps even better because there are less people). It's a short hike to get to the top, so be prepared for some stairs, but the end result is worth it!

I have gone up to Tank Hill many times, and always bring out-of-town visitors here. I believe it has the best view over San Francisco in the City, better than all of the other more famous and well-visited viewpoints. The view from Corona Heights, while very nice, is just basically of downtown down over Market Street. The same for Twin Peaks, albeit much higher than Corona Heights. From Twin Peaks, you can't really see north toward Marin, since the view in that direction is obstructed. Another very nice view is from the pull-out viewpoint along the south (downhill) side of Upper Market Street near where it changes into Portola. That is one of the most beautiful, particularly of the East Bay. But you can't see the northern part of the City from there at all. All of these are great (on clear and sunny days), but Tank HIll has something that beats them all: NO CROWDS. Plus, you get a fabulous, unobstructed view north toward Marin, Mt. Tamalpais, and the Golden Gate Bridge, over Golden Gate Park and the beautiful north side of San Francisco itself. From this rocky outcropping, San Francisco looks for all the world like someplace in Europe (perhaps Lisbon) or maybe in South America, like Rio, Valparaiso, or Buenos Aires. It's very peaceful, particularly because, as I said, there are very few people there –– except on July 4, when it is the perfect place to watch fireworks!

Stunning views from the Ocean and the Golden Gate round across the Bay, to the Bay Bridge and beyond. Muni N to Carl & Cole; either walk or bus 37 up Cole; approach the park along Shrader and Belgrave Avenue and you come to some steps- the awesome views start straight away. It is a steep San Francisco walk up to the park but worth it. After Amoeba Music on Haight you need a good walk anyway.

This little hill below twin peaks is a local treasure a quick walk up some steps off twin peaks blvd and you will see an old gun turret left over from World War Two ,it is just a large circle on the top of tank hill, its name suggests the governments use for long distance guns face in general the pacific to stop an invasion from Japan, enjoy this gem of a secret destination .,

This place is great for adults of all ages and kids too if they are well supervised. You can actually roll down the hill or if you walk down towards Carmel the back way pay close attention to where you step or you'll tweak your ankle!

We visited on VERY windy day & felt like we might get blown off the hill! Like other reviewers mention, we only saw 3 other people on the day of our visit. It is a short but VERY steep climb up and down from Belgrade Ave. There's a bench, there's rocks to sit on, and not much else. Besides the GORGEOUS view!!

I love this place. Still nearly unknown to non-locals; that won't last long with social media, will it? Great views of San Francisco from Tank Hill. Never crowded (yet) and super peaceful.

Set in a residential non-touristy neighborhood, you get views of the Pacific, The Golden Gate, Downtown and the East Bay. Stop by Cole Valley fir a bite to eat after devouring the view,

Good view, stunning really, but honestly this is just a pit stop on the way to twin peaks, so if you're heading up there, stop off here for a view without a crowd.
