There are a lot of unique depreciation shops here that you'll only find by walking. Parking here is easy and central to other districts/hills. The SF fascination with Columbus (this street and the monument by Coit Tower) got me into a bit of research. This area was also the original Little Italy.

We went this street several times, mostly passed by car. There are little traffic jam here. The street is always alive with so many people and small lovely shops. Also you can find lunch or dinner places.

After our Dinner at Brandy Ho's (217 Columbus) we went for a stroll along this Avenue that is famous for the TransAmerica Pyramid, the North Beach area, and lots of adult entertainment venues. It is quite interesting how one side is "a bit seedy," and the other side has some great restaurants and bookstores. It is a good pace for... More

Went to the restaurant, Tosca, on Columbus ave. It is a very lively place. Food and drink were just fine and service not bad fir such a busy place. Definitely a eating and drinking place for the "younger set" whatever age that is. Read the menu carefully because there are some good choices hidden there.

I recommend walking, not driving this one. Start in China Town... Do that towards columbus (make House of Nanking your last stop in China Town, it's near Columbo...) then transition to this North beach neighborhood. Oh... While your in China Town... Share a lunch dish so your not too stuffed for all the Italian yummyness. Stop in a cafe and... More

Columbus Avenue is a row of about five blocks or so that has a beautiful sidewalks of Italian Cafe. San Francisco is my hometown. It is categorized by districts, and Columbus Avenue is in the heart of "North Beach" known as the Italian town. Here, you will find authentic Italian restaurants, lots of really good pizza spots, but the best... More

This is the place for nightly entertainment and bars. Good places to eat and be entertained. Lively and crowded during peak nights.

We came here on the HOHO bus tour an area with an Italian twist and a notable comedy club where the late Robin Williams was known to make impromptu appearances. A long road but not all of it is interesting.

At first, Columbus Avenue looks like any other large street in San Francisco. But then one starts to explore the street. To me, its the delightful North Beach area. Its the smell of Italian food in the air. There are delightful Italian restaurants and sidewalk cafes. Its where one enjoys an espresso with a delightful Italian pastry. Its where Washington... Staying in Russian Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
