I have had the opportunity to visit this opera house many times over the years. It has a comfortable amount of space, not too large and not too small. It is often full for weekend performances. The operas performed here vary from fabulous to an...More

This magnificent structure was built in the early 1930's, and was the final contribution to the Civic Center of San Francisco of buildings designed in the Beaux Arts style. It was dedicated to those who gave their lives in World War l, and was the...More

If I was reviewing this production and If I was the man sitting in the chair I would fall down and bomb my little head saying stupid, stupid, stupid. For the price we paid for this performance and redundant dance routines not to mention the...More

I recently attended a matinee performance of "La Boheme" at the War Memorial Opera House. It is a spectacularly beautiful venue, especially for opera. Following the performance, there was an excellent lecture at Books Incorporated, a bookstore within a block or two of the house....More

Gorgeous building inside and out. Tile floors and walls all around. Boxes are absolutely the best way to see a performance.

Great venue, comfortable seats with enough leg room, good acoustics. Tosca was a great opera, saw it in Barcelona--they had a bigger budget inSF and it showed. The voices were equally beautiful, sets were lusher, costumes lovely. Orchestra was great.

Such a beautiful venue. Susannah was a great performance, but I think some of the audience was a little shocked.

I have just read reviews from people who complain about the SF Opera House having tiny seats. This is true -- but I have to assume that they have never been to opera, or at least that they have never been to any of the...More

Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things
government and performance-related in the city.
Although its streets are best walked during daytime,
numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to
one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz
center offer year round entertainment within the
shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold
tipped dome of City Hall.

Row D will be very close to the stage. You'll be looking up a bit. Row O will be back further and look more straight onto the stage. Hope that helps.

That I don't know. In the group I signed up for, there were between 10 and 15 people, if I remember right. If you want to pursue it further, you may search for SFOpera backstage tours
