Wonderful historic North Beach establishment.

Great place to drop in for a drink and meet wonderful people. Bartenders are top drawer quality as is everything else at Tosca. What a fantastic place.

On my last day of my holiday, I visited Tosca's, on the recommendation of my hosts, who accompanied me for our farewell meal. What a wonderful, restaurant, great ambience, pleasant and helpful staff and nothing was too much trouble. My steak was cooked to perfection, the vegetables were perfectly 'al dente', and the drinks menu was extensive and interesting. My... More

Good Italian food. Servers are attentive and friendly and the best Manhattan I think I've ever had. The pig tails as a starter were yummy, like the best chicharrones you've ever had. Definitely coming back!

Tosca is a perfect example of why San Francisco is such a great restaurant city. An old-line beat era restaurant has been reborn with a cutting edge chef in April Broomfield, but hasn't lost one bit of it's bohemian charm. We didn't get as far as the meat entrees, but the firsts, the pastas and the veggies were simply outstanding.... More

Great cocktail bar and wonderful restaurant. come here for one or both experiences. We stopped in for cocktails and loved the hip feel. Came back later in the week for a meal and found it one of the best of our time in San Fran. A bit pricey and not your standard Italian but well worth being a bit adventurous.

We went to Tosca because my mom´s husband remembered this place from way back when and recommended it. It was quite crowded, but the drinks were pretty good although a little pricey. We had the Tosca Cappuccino that has hot chocolate and bourbon in it and was quite tasty and the White Nun that has steamed milk and Kahlua in... More

Grabbed a seat at the bar and had a great experience. Servers were knowledgeable and very gracious. Drinks were meticulously crafted and entertaining to observe. Fun all the way around.

We visited this bar, or shall I say saloon, for the ultimate old-school drinking experience, and dare I say we got what we bargained for. The bartenders were phenomenal, the drinks were outstanding and inventive, and the atmosphere was on point. Have them make a drink for you- they know what they're doing. Or just have them make you an... More

Cool old-time saloon. It has an old, divey feel. The cocktails are made very well. This place didn't fill up as fast as most of the restaurants in North Beach. It feels like it has a lot of history and stories. And, honestly if you just walk by you'd never know it was there.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
