Not the sexiest part of SF

Aside from the gay Castro, this part of SF is kinda blah. Lots of chains and unremarkable restaurants. Good for cruising though.

Upper Market is basically the area from Van Ness up to Castro Street. Along this stretch of palm tree lined street there are many stores, businesses, restaurants, and bars. I would actually suggest taking in a quick view of the area with the Classic Street car lines that run up and down Market Street.
