If you see a program that interests you, go. The orchestra is world-class. Unfortunately audiophiles find problems with the acoustics in Davies Hall, but it's OK to my uneducated ear. Hayes Street nearby is a great place for a meal or a drink.

Davies Symphony Hall is a *lot* more intimate than I would have imagined. We had seats in the "rear box" section-- which is at the back of the auditorium, but amazingly close to the stage. "Box seats" (chairs) are more comfortable than the fixed seats...More

Pink Martini played with the San Francisco Symphony and together they were powerful and put on a rewarding show. The venue is nice and parking is convenient.

Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things
government and performance-related in the city.
Although its streets are best walked during daytime,
numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to
one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz
center offer year round entertainment within the
shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold
tipped dome of City Hall.

Sorry, I don't know. I'm from Australia & booked with the box office in advance so as not to miss out. However I did notice a few vacant seats the night I attended so probably no problem for a last minute ticket.
