This is the Old Stage Coach Road that used to link San Juan Bautista to Salinas. The trail is 8 miles (4 miles up and 4 back) if you take the entire trail. This was a drive I did by myself as I had a full free day. The trail went through lovely farmlands, many, many winery vineyards, ruins of the Dutton Hotel in an old area called Jolon, Mission Soledad, and Mission San Antonio, ending in Fort Hunter Liggett. Juan Bautista Valentín Alvarado y Vallejo was Governor of Alta California from 1836 to 1837, and 1838 to 1842. He led several exploratory partie. He was a major leader in politics, ranching, and exploration of the area. There are beautiful views of the city. The trail is clean and well maintained. Very few bugs to bug us, and the terrain in suitable for most abilities.

The "trail" runs along a couple of state highways in my town. One of these highways has sidewalks and the other does not. I wouldn't really call this so much a trail as the site of a historic trail.
