Every Wok Wiz tour leader was either born in, or grew up in Chinatown, giving a very local flavor to the tour, and each speaks fluent English as well as Chinese.

We really enjoyed this tour. Gimmy was our guide and she showed us around Chinatown and pointed out interesting facts about the history, current conditions, architecture and culture / lifestyles of the residents. She was also very good at pointing out things to my 12 and 15 year old children. We felt part of the culture as she introduced us... More

Our guide Dorothy is clearly a well-studied historian, in addition to being a native, of Chinatown. She expertly wove historical information with personal anecdotes, and customized the tour to suit our group's personal interests. We felt truly welcomed as visitors in Chinatown, as we were introduced to and got to chat with the owners of local mom and pop shops... More

Dorothy was awesome. She walked us thru the different areas and culture of Chinatown. We were lucky to have the New Year celebration going on and Dorothy took time to let us watch different events. We got the opportunity to see areas that we would not have found on our own and learn about the history of the area.

A vivid picture of the Chinatown neighborhood through the years was painted by our guide Dorothy. Native to the neighborhood, she was able to share her personal stories. The alleys were full of history which she pointed out throughout the tour. We enjoyed tea at Red Blossom Tea Company. We visited mom and pop shops - with a variety of... More

Frank (our tour guide) was amazing! He customized the tour to accommodate our adventurous taste buds, and made us feel like we were part of his family. It was great to get to know him and all of his favorite spots around China Town. It's a beautiful and delicious part of SF, and we are honored to have been able... More

It was just the three of us, and we were late due to a misunderstanding about the meeting place. We were welcomed by the unflappable Dorothy, who quickly assured us all was OK and that we were the tour. Dorothy provided all that Wok Wiz promises but so much more. She personalised the tour. We saw where she was born... More

I took this tour, mainly for an anthropology project that was offered at CSU Stanislaus in Turlock. Though I was very lethargic for needing to arrive early in the morning all the way from Modesto, and my prescription wasn't being fair with me, the tour was very memorable and I appreciate Ginny's ability to accommodate my visit to Chinatown. My... More

Gimmy was our tour guide and we were fortunate to have her all to ourselves. We got a small taste of the history, the culture, and the life of Chinatown. We saw and learned many things that we could have never seen on our own. It was great and I highly recommend. I now know it might be better to... More

Our family had a limited time in San Francisco. After reading the reviews we decided Wok Wiz was the way to go. Our boys (10&13) loved the tour given by our guide - Gimmy. She was knowledgeable, entertaining, and connected well with our family. We would never have been able to figure out what to see or how to do... More

Foodie heaven. Frank knows everything and everyone in Chinatown. This must be what it is like when a celebrity chef like Bourdain goes somewhere and has a local show him the best and coolest of everything. Great dining, the 'village' style lunch in particular, to experience the stuff that you don't find on the usual menu but is both what... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighbourhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
