My mother, my son and I walked up to the tower, which took us 400 steps up to it. It definitely was a challenge but we made it. The view is spectacular.

Worth the effort to climb all those stairs. The elevator take you to the top. The stairs are for the uphill walk to the tower. The lobby is filled with massive depression era WPA art. That alone was worth the visit.

Coit tower is great to hike up to in the day and beautiful to drive up to for the romantic view at night. Was surprised and taken up after a black tie event, there was a full moon shining on the bay with the lighted Bay Bridge behind it! Was very romantic.

Not only is the Tower amazing to visit, but walk the steps up from Levi Center and the views are fantastic. You get an intimate look at the gardens, beautiful homes and incredible views of the bay. The tower itself is wonderfully located at the peak of Telegraph Hill.

We took the bus up to Coit Tower and it dropped us off right at the door. When you enter this tower, you will find the most amazing murals painted on every wall. For a small fee, you can take the elevator to the top for some fantastic views of San Francisco. There is also a small gift shop.

The walk up the hill is very steep. Wish I had checked on the bus lines. There is a bus that will take you here, #39.. The art work inside the tower is beautiful. The view from the top, (for a small $8 per person fee, to help with maintenance) is breath-taking. You can get a 360* view of the... More

Taking the bus is the best bet to get here. The views from the top are stunning and give one a good overall feeling for the city and bay

Beautiful spot in the city to take in fantastic views of the entire bay. Hopefully, like the day we were there, the fog stays away and you can take in the scenery from the Bay Bridge to the Golden Gate.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
