The museum features magnificent Asian art. My favorites are the Chinese ceramics. It also hosts special exhibitions that are always worth seeing.

Love the displays of Asian art - Japanese, Korean, Chinese. Plus we had a nice snack in their cafe and loved the gift shop.

We stumbled across this one but we're glad we did. As usual with museums, we ran out of time. It's not free, unlike excellent museums in London and it's not the British Museum but it's a little gem and worth a visit (and more time...More

A well laid out selection of Asian Art which frankly is too much to take in on one visit. There are some exquisite pieces. The location is handy and the building - a former library - is rather special. Take a break in the modest...More

I love visiting art museums, but I have to admit to being somewhat ethnocentric in my tastes. However, I decided in San Francisco to explore the Asian Art Museum on a recent trip, and I feel that I really learned a lot as it relates...More

I love that there was art from India and other countries and indigenous cultures of Asia. There are multiple floors with a wide variety of art. There is a hall for live performances.

We went there to see their Japanese basket exhibition which was quite amazing and stayed to see their extensive collection of porcelain. Lots of other interesting exhibits.

Look for the Chinese snuff bottles. The museum store is a gem. New location next to the Civic Center.

We mainly went to see the special exhibition "Tomb Treasures: New discoveries from China's Han dynasty." We had previously seen a similar show at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, UK, and were delighted to note that most of the objects on display were different. It...More

Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things
government and performance-related in the city.
Although its streets are best walked during daytime,
numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to
one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz
center offer year round entertainment within the
shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold
tipped dome of City Hall.

Is the cafe seated table service or cafeteria style? Is it possible to reserve a table -- I have a group of 9, including one person in a wheel chair. Thanks!

The cafe is cafeteria style, no table service. What I would do is when you first enter the museum go directly to the cafe and talk with them about seeing if you can resrve a spot for your nine people at a set time. Good... More
