We decided to just walk the whole pier area, having come down from Telegraph Hill/Coit Tower. Let's just say I totally felt it for the next 2 days but it was worth it (especially for the hubs, seeing everything for the first time)

We got off the bay ferry and walked from pier 1 up to pier 41. Took a leisurely half hour. Nice paved walkway, lots of rickshaw and cyclists around. Liked watching the trolley cars go by.

The Embarcadero is a pierside drive which offers a typical San Francisco experience of driving amongst skyscrapers. On lucky days one can drive along with some speed. But, normally the traffic does get held-up and one needs patience to get to one's destination.

We had been here on National day so almost shops are closed. However, it is fun. There are food, coffee and souvenir shops. Nice view.

Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but
can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s

make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of
life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the
narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of
historic and contemporary architecture, including the
iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours,

We didn't find it necessary to have a rental car in the city. Taxis are very inexpensive and lots of public transport options. With cable cars it can be a bit tricky driving if you're not used to it. We hired a car for trips... More
