having been raised in California I never really visited until several years ago. This is one of the most unique "tourist attractions" you will ever visit. Do not pass this one up. Make reservations well in advance of your planned trip to the Bay Area.

Step back in time and relive the life and times of Alcatraz Island. We were there on a picture perfect day. It is a nice ferry ride to and from the island. Once there, we did the audio tour that gave us a personalized narrative of what it was like to live there. Most of the buildings are still in... More

The audio tour is the highlight - It takes you into the cell block and out of the wind (which is a bonus) and you hear some stories on what it was like being an inmate and their conditions. It was well worth a visit. It only took us an hour and a half so it doesn't need to be... More

Took the Ferry to the Island and grabbed the headsets for the 40 minute self guided tour. Very informative and educational. It's quite a walk, so wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

We did the sunset cruise which I would highly recommend. Everyone that visits San Francisco should come here. The guide was very informative and gave life to the buildings leading up to the cell block. Once inside we were given the headset which is a must. First full I want to say that this place remain to Indians who fights for their freedoms long time ago! The visit was really awesome and real! It's nicely explained by the audio guide, everything is original inside! But there were many construction, then many places were closed to visit!
