Experience a half-day or full day climb with Maine’s original and most respected climbing school. Acadia Mountain Guides is one of the most sought out leaders of climbing instruction and guide education in the US. We specialize in designing unique, personalized climbing experiences for all ages and abilities on the scenic shores of Acadia and throughout Maine! Join us for a healthy and fun activity that is guaranteed to be a highlight of your vacation. All equipment is provided. Unlike other local seasonal climbing services, guiding is our profession! We guide year round on rock, snow, and ice. 100% of our staff are independently trained and certified above national guiding and medical standards set by the American Mountain Guides Association and the Professional Climbing Instructors Association. AMGCS has the distinction of being the only school in Maine to be dually accredited by both the AMGA and the PCIA. AMG has been under the same consistent ownership since opening in 1993. The owner, Jon Tierney, began guiding in 1983 in Acadia and is one of a handful of Americans to earn the International Federation of Mountain Guides Association (IFMGA) guide license. The IFMGA license is the PhD of guiding and requires full AMGA certification as a rock, alpine and ski mountaineering guide. We look forward to meeting you on the rocks!

My wife and I were in the Bar Harbor area for a few days this past week (week of 9/12/16). I am primarily a gym climber in the 5.9/5.10 range (live in Florida) and over the last year or so have been trying to gain some experience outside whenever I get a chance. As a result I couldn't resist attempting... More

I am 69 with arthritis in knees and hands and had never done rock-climbing before although I was curious about it. I felt fit and considered myself nimble though and decided to give it a try after reading the enthusiastic reviews of Acadia Mountain Guides Climbing School on Trip Advisor. The cruise we were on would stop in Bar Harbor,... More

Brian O'Leary took our whole family on an all-day program. It was definitely the highlight of our vacation and all our kids LOVED it (ages 20, 18, 16, and 11). We climbed somewhere near the Precipice Trail which the kids had just done the day before (the non-technical portion). It was the first time for all of us to do... More

It was my first time in Acadia so i wanted to really get the full experience. My guide, Christian, from the Acadia mountain guides did exactly that. It was like going out with your best friend. My favorite part was the rock climbing. It was my first time doing any type of climbing, so Christian took me to a few... More

I can't even begin to put in words how incredible this climbing experience was. I initially purchased this as a gift for my significant other, who is an avid climber. Me, on the other hand, am terrified of heights and had zero climbing experience-- but wanted to try it anyway. I ended up absolutely loving it. It was challenging, frightening,... More

Great experience, especially for my 11 and 13 year old boys. Made an excellent trip to Acadia a memorable one. Our instructor Brian O'Leary was very friendly, knowledgeable, great with the boys. Having climbed indoors previously, there was a level of awareness, but the Otter's Cliff was a different ballgame, which with Brian's know how and assistance, seemed like fairly... More

My 14 year old daughter went on a climb with our guide Alex. She had climbed indoors before but this was a new experience for her on Otter Cliffs. Alex was knowledgeable and a great instructor and immediately put us both a ease. She did a number of climbs during her 1/2 day adventure and she loved every minute of... More

This summer, my three daughters and i spent four hours climbing near otter cliffs. Christian, our guide was so much fun and really new a lot about what he was talking about. He took us to this private place where we didn't have to wait for any other climbers. It was challenging, but he made it very easy to reach... More

We had a great experience with Acadia mountain guides. Mark Warner was super friendly and knowledgeable - put us all at ease immediately. I had never climbed before but my husband and 9 year old son had done a little indoor climbing. We are all relatively fit but the first climb location (old precipice trail) made us all gulp a... We spent a half day climbing at Otter Cliffs during our family vacation. Our diverse group included six people from all over the US, who ranged in age (17-50), ability/experience (never climbed/belayed- Outward Bound/Chamonix experience), and fitness levels. Our amazing guide, Mark (highly recommended!), gave us an unforgettable experience that met everyone's' interests and abilities (and had an awesome sense... More
