Neat!!!

Very cool walking on the bottom of the bay. Fun looking around and checking out the tide pools. A must do when in Bar Harbor.

The history of the area and the items they'd displayed was very interesting, but I honestly expected to see much much more than the very sparse artifacts that were on display, seeing as how it's run by the Smithsonian Museum...The admission price is a little much for seeing barely anything. I believe the admission is supposed to cover two separate... More

We love to go out to Bar Island, but you are at the mercy of the tide schedule and if it fits with your schedule -- there is a very tight window of time to walk over to Bar Island, have fun over therre, and then get back before the 12-to-14-foot tide change comes in. Enjoy!

This is a lovely, easy hike for all with breathtaking views. We crossed to Bar Island when the tide was low and hiked to the small summit with views out across Bar Harbor. We all enjoyed it immensely.

We were very excited about the prospect of walking across the sandbar during low tide to access Bar Island. And I suppose the sandbar was mildly interesting if you're interested in looking for things that might have been left behind from high tide. But once you get to Bar Island, there's not really much to do. Sure, you can take... More

Go 2 hours before or after low tide. It is an easy walk across the sand bar and the hike to the top isn't bad compared to some within the main park. Once you reach the summit, you think you have the best view. Keep going down and to the right. You should be able to see a trail leading... More

My family loves visiting Bar Island. Usually we just stick to the tide pools (this year we saw lots of star fish, a baby eel, and lots of crabs), but this year we went on the island and walked around. We saw a deer in the meadow, and looked out at the beautiful surroundings before heading back to town. We... More

Plan your hike accordingly to ensure you don't get stuck on the island due to the tide. The island itself looks like it's an old farm, lot's of apple trees! There wasn't too much to explore on the island but the gravel bar between Bar Harbor and the Island is a cool place to explore. The tide pools had all... More

It was very neat to walk over to Bar Island. Beautiful scenery. You definitely have more time than they say to walk over, explore the island and get back before the land bridge is covered in water again.

We got there while walking around and it was low tide. Very pretty. To bad we did not have the time to walk to Bar Island.
