Hiked the trail is September 2017. Started on the eastern side and ended on the ocean side. If you are going to just do it one direction, this is the way to do it so during the second half you are looking out over the...More

My wife and I thought the hike was a bit dangerous, but we did enjoy the seemingly endless blue-ocean views. We took plenty of water, and it was a good thing, as the day was both very hot and windy--especially as we climbed higher. Would...More

This isn't an easy hike, the lava path is steep but it has beautiful views. We only made it 2 miles in to the windmills, we would have kept going but were running low on water and it was very windy.

We attempted this hike via the east trailhead near N. Kihei Road this morning. Started around 10 am and ended up only hiking for a total of an hour. It was a hot day, however it was very windy. Without the wind I don't know...More

Demanding, can be dangerously hot during the day. Take lots of water. Take the left trail at the windmills to stay on trail.

Wow! What a hike. My friends and I had heard about doing a "moonlight hike" here since apparently it's brutal to do this whole hike in the sun & heat, which I can believe. So we started on the maalaea side first at around 6:45....More

Take more water than you think you will need. Good workout, great views and fun to walk to volcanic rocks. Windmills on the top and can make hike longer if you want. Recommended hike

Hiked this trail with two 5 year old girls and my girlfriend. We all had a blast and thought about doing it twice during our 8 days in Maui. Trailhead is directly adjacent to the north parking lot at Napili Kai Beach Resort just before...More

*Tip: bring 2-3 times more water than you would expect on a trail hike - this felt more like a Sedona Dessert trail than a traditional rainforest/Hawaii trail We had read about this trail a few days before we passed it and actually stopped off...More

Great views on this hiking trail even if you don't make it all the way to the top. Plenty of places to stop and catch your breath

I started on the Lahaina side. There was ample parking and I didn't feel at all unsafe parking and leaving my car there. Some people like to go toward sunset, hike up a mile or so, and have a little campfire after watching... More
