Loved this part of our trip...that being said, take many layers as it gets COLD when you're waiting around for the sun to come up! We then did the bike ride down the volcano which was a ton of fun. Don't hesitate to do this...More

A popular drive on the island is to the summit of Haleakala. Haleakala or the East Maui Volcano is an impressive volcanic peak of over 10,000 feet which towers above the clouds and attracts visitors from sunrise to sunset. The drive twists and turns its...More

The drive up is a bit hairy, especially if any of your party is prone to car sickness. The views all the way up and the summit is totally worth it though. Although you'll find a million ads for treks to the summit for sunrises,...More

Very unique and amazing views all the way up the crater. The sunrise was perfect. The Park worker answered all our questions and gave a very informative and interesting presentation. We will do this again.

We drove up to Haleakala to see the sunset. (Sunrise requires reservations and heading up very early in the morning, possibly as early as 3:00 AM.) We arrived late afternoon and viewed the Crater, taking the Pa Ka'oao Trail, You can also take the Sliding...More

If you are in Maui, you must go to Haleakala! We drove to the top and did one of the shorter hikes. The view is amazing. Next time we will do a sunrise trip!

The beautiful area on the southern end of the park has the Pipiwai Trail that follows a series of water features called the "seven pools," though there are many more than seven. A short 4 mile out and back hike takes you through an impressive...More

There aren't many places on heart like this one. That will definitely take you in an other "zone". Isn't it what we're looking for while traveling?

We had about 3 hours to sunset when we got to the park gates, so planned our trip around that. We spent some time getting tips from the visitor center, going to the Leleiwi Overlook, and doing a small section of the Sliding Sands trail....More

I don't know the answer. I do know that reservations will only be available through Reserve America. Reserve America's call center phone number is 1-877-444-6777. Maybe you can call and ask.

Just a few steps as I recall, you can do a hike up a higher vantage point if you wish but its not necessary - we had beautiful views from the lookout.
