Go even if it's not whale season. Great people, lots to learn, take kids. Great plush turtles, whales, and monk seals for kids at super reasonable prices.

This is great place to learn about humpback whales. They have several videos that explain about the whales and what they encounter. Helpful volunteer staff is very knowledgeable and can answer all of your questions.

A wonderful location to learn about the whales of Hawaii and the various sea turtles that are native to the area. A historic "fish pond" dating back 700 years is located just in front of the building and you just might see some sea turtles! Take an hour to take this sight in, perfect for families and just about anyone.

This place was so very informative, and there is a small beach off the water side of the building - great for little ones. Sometimes you can see turtles here.

We stopped here during our brief time in Kihei and in the 30 minutes or so that we were here, we learned quite a bit about the whales and the other local sea life. I was pleased to see that they were a part of NOAA and had a lot of knowledgeable volunteers. There were videos playing and several displays... More

Hats off to the staff. They were very friendly and helpful. The kids found it extremely interesting and informative. The had lots of activities for our younger kids (2 & 4) and lots of information for our 8 yr old. The fish pond beside the sanctuary is great for snorkelling to see turtles on extremely rough days. The rock wall... More

If you love whales (like I do) then this can be a fun stop. The docents had a ton of information on the whales, I saw posters for lectures on the whales (may want to check the website before you go), and this is where the enforcement of the whale sanctuary laws (NOAA) are based out of. It is great... More

We stayed within walking distance and brought the kids over one morning before spending the rest of the morning on the beach. They loved playing with the different toys and puzzles and the volunteers were very friendly and gave us lots of information about the whales. We had a good time and then stayed and played on the beach and... More
