Located in Kihei on the south shore of Maui, the visitor center is an ideal spot to learn about the marine environment and even see humpback whales breaching. This scenic beachfront location at the foot of Haleakala has views of Kaho'olawe, Lana'i and West Maui looking across the waters of the sanctuary. Visitors to the new center inKihei will be able to learn about the efforts by NOAA, the State of Hawaii, and others to protect humpback whales, monk seals, sea turtles, and coral reefs.

I enjoyed and learn something new every time I attend a lecture at the visitor center. The staff is well versed and has an actual concern about continuing the research of the whales and their habits. Always well done.

We're we're staying across the street. The people working here were very knowledgable and helpful when we stopped in. They were more then willing to take the time to answer all our questions about whales.

If you are coming to Maui then you know that during the winter months over 10,000 whales come thru Maui's water and this is the place to stop and learn why. They have very helpful volunteers that are there to answer all your questions. Located...More

The whale sanctuary is right by the beach. Inside you can learn more about the whales and other native fauna. It's a small center, but it's free. The volunteers seemed quite engaged with the visitors, but we just walked through quickly. It's a nice stop...More

Great staff. They gave us binoculars and w sat on the deck and watched the whales breach and flap. They also had a presentation that was very interesting on how they help keep the oceans clean and safe.

Got to stop by this place on our way to the airport. Would have loved Tom spend more time whale watching from their deck.

Wow, once you've seen the whales (every day off South Maui if you keep your eyes peeled) and even heard them (swim underwater and stop moving, their singing is clear from miles away), you'll want to learn more about these amazing creatures. This is the...More

Visited on a day there was no lecture so just looked around the centre. It was very small and we didn't really learn anything new. The boards outside the centre were interesting although looking out to sea we saw no whales. Think it would be...More

Hi! I wouldn't take your little one to the lecture (it's too long for a toddler), but the center itself is very kid-friendly. There is a GREAT little kid-friendly beach adjacent to the sanctuary. Good spot for a relaxing... More

Don't know about formal lectures, but visitations are sparse enough that docent will take you through the exhibits personally.
