Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We left Oahu at 5:15 am and returned at 9:30pm and did the one day Kauai Tour Waimea Canyon and Fern Grotto. This a fantastic tour, we have done it on three occasions previously and it is very informative and the guide was of a very high quality and good fun as well. Don’t miss this trip if you are visiting Hawaii, I highly recommend it.

Very nice tour of Waimea Canyon and Fern Grotto and much more. Tour was small so we made lots of stops. Scenery was spectacular and got a good sense of the history from guide. Canyon and Grotto were the highlights and I would highly recommend.

This tour was exactly what the wife and I were looking for. We had an amazing host and great aloha from Nani. She was early for our pick-up (as they suggested they would be), she thanked us all day and has an amazing amount of history on the island which she graciously shares throughout. Her stories should be documented and sold. It is a guided bus tour, make no mistake what this means. There are stops every hour or so at varying parts of the island but this is not a Waimea Canyon hike. We were very lucky with the weather, as the canyon was not socked in. Beautiful weather and views. The only thing we would do differently is not include the Fern Grotto. While the boat ride was peaceful, there wasn't really anything too unique about the Grotto, aside from it's history, and it took up just over an hour of our tour. You go up the river, walk to a cave entrance that is closed due to flooding years ago, they played one Hawaiin song, sang and hula danced, and you boat back. All in all, we were really happy with our day, the tour of the island and especially pleased with Nani, what a sweet and loving woman! Mahalo Nani

Here is one of those times where you think to yourself... there is 9 plus hours of my life I will never get back. Where to start. Was it the bus pick up being 40 minutes late or that we spent the first 2 hours of the tour picking up from other hotels. Maybe dividing the pick ups into smaller buses as was done at the end of the tour would have provided some relief from the early boredom. Was it the banal, mind numbing commentary. Was it the boring tourist shop that clearly had a relationship with the tour owner we were forced to stop it... customer service clearly not on their agenda. Was it the lunch stop at Poanu which I presume is Hawaiian for " don't expect to get served anytime soon "... and that applied to the whole bus. Was it the promised Hula Lesson on the river cruise which never happened. Clearly the dreadful weather did not help our experience as the Canyon itself was virtually invisible. The trip to the Fern Grotto though was a must see but overall this was a total shocker and a waste of time and money.

tHE CANYON, i'M SURE IS BREATHTAKING.aLTHOUGH i HAVE NO IDEA.wE COULDN'T SEE IT DUE TO TO RAIN AND FOG.The option of cancelling due to weather was not an option. The bus was 25 minutes late and then we had to spend another hour gathering others from other hotels. The spouting horn took 5 minutes and was the highlight of the tour. Our guide jonna was nice enough but her stories of childhood and her constant chuckle after said stories was irritaning.took us 7 hours and we didn't even do the fern grotto!!
avoid the tour and do all of it on your own with a rental cart. It's easy and you can come and go as you please and not wait for others to get back on bu when they feel like it..

gorgeous hikes with amazing views. Drive to the hike was beautiful as well and there are many trails around the area for hikes of varying distances.

We did the full day Waimea Canyon tour, with the Fern Grotto visit and boat ride and it was a great day! Our driver and tour guide Leoni was full of useful information and had a great sense of humor. Even though we were on a big tour bus, we never felt rushed at any of the stops and we had great photo opportunities. We stopped in Poipu for lunch and had a great selection of restaurants to choose from (we had the most delicious lunch at Merriman's). As is the case everywhere in Hawaii, there is too much air conditioning! We are not from a tropical country at all and found it cold on the bus. We did ask Leoni if he could turn the air conditioning down, and he obliged, but it was still cold so bring a sweater or jacket if you do not like the cold.

Just a note on booking - although we could book through the concierge at our hotel, it was substantially cheaper to book directly online.

I can only review Waimea Canyon as definitely an easy drive to reach and appreciate. We didn’t go to Fern Grotto this trip, which is a totally different attraction. For some reason, TripAdvisor lumps them together. No no, they are such different experiences in different parts of the island.

That said, the Canyon is dramatic with a waterfall and much to appreciate. Can’t hike into the canyon, can only view from a look-out that is well fenced. So the Canyon is unspoiled for all to enjoy.

My wife and I love movies, so this tour was for us. I was hooked from the first to the last stop. Kevin our guide was knowledgable about all the films showed us where they were shot and the countries they were supposed to be filmed in. A Fascinating day....we loved it!!! And....a very good lunch too!
