Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We initially went here because we were told it was a locals beach for snorkeling but the waves were too high. Nice, clean beach; didn’t know Gilligan’s Island all started here. Watched that show all through grade school.

I've visited this beach several years now but my most recent visit gave me pause on how this spot should be rated for 2017. Five years ago, I would have said 5 stars all the way, but a few factors have changed my opinion.
A lot of sandy beach area seems to have eroded since my last visit. A lot of large rocks are now exposed where I used to watch families with children swimming and playing. The waves would now push them right in to harm's way. Moloa'a beach was almost pristine on past trips; this year there was quite a lot of trash about.
On the north curve of the beach there is a small area that provided some nice, very safe snorkling. That bowl is shallower now and a lot of fishing takes place now...We dont see people catching much, but their broken lines and lost tackle are scattered across the areas we used to snorkle and swim. For the first time this year, people were out near the snorkling/swimming area shooting at fish with crossbows. It just didnt feel safe.
If you rent a vacation home near or at the end of the dead end access road, just know before you go that you are NOT welcome by a lot of the locals who camp out on the beach in the evenings and on the weekends. It's bad when alcohol gets in the mix and a few bad eggs steal your paid parking spot, shine flash lights in your house windows when you're trying to sleep, bang on your house doors and various other pranks and nonsense.
If you rent a house anywhere on the road, be aware that there is really no public parking there to speak of, so people encroach upon the road. Traffic in or out becomes a hassle.
If you just want to see a pretty area, come in the morning when almost no one is about, but the narrow river inlet may be a challenge to cross if the water is running swiftly. It's only a few inches deep, but it will sure take your feet out from under you if you aren't careful.

As we continued up the coast, north of Kapa'a our guide pulled into a residential neighborhood and led us through what seemed like people's back yards to Moloa'a Beach. In Hawaii, all beaches are public and even private homes must provide access to the ocean.
Once the access-way opened up onto the bay, we were treated to a fairly secluded beach area with a stream running through it.
Fun fact: the pilot and a few other episodes of Gilligan's Island were filmed here.

We were brought here by Shaka Guide app. You must park and walk down a resident only street. About a city block down on the right side is a sign pointing to a walkway between 2 houses. Very shortly you are on the beach and the cove is amazing. It’s where the first season of Gilligan’s Island (TV show) was filmed. There is shade but no bathroom facilities of any kind which is why we didn’t stay!

Discovered this beach for the first time...only a few people there. Steeply raked down to the water, so could be dangerous in heavy surf. We did not get back to spend more time but will do so on our next visit. Very limited parking, so go early.

Gorgeous beach, relaxing waves, ugly ghost crabs, pretty reefs. Loved it. Standing in the exact area where the SS MINNOW was beached, also the day JFK was shot, was chilling. Try to imagine the pilot was shot here before there was any real estate, with different actors playing GINGER, MARY ANN and the PROFESSOR. You can see this beach in the unaired pilot MAROONED. Also in the first episode TWO ON A RAFT.

Had to go see where Gilligan's Island started. As others have said you have about a 1/4 mile walk to get there. The beach was nice. Sand meets water on Hawaii, what's wrong with that? Perhaps the only useful part of this review is "buy a Neso shade tent". Take it with you every time you go to the beach. 9' by 9' and easy to set up. It will tolerate REALLY strong winds and double your stay time on the beach. Everybody who walked past asked "what is that thing?" Then they went and tried to find shade on the rocky edges while we luxuriated in the middle of the beach! Find a lightweight giant beach blanket thing too. Ours is made out of parachute material (I think "Wekapo" makes it) and it stuffs into the side pocket of the Neso Tent carry bag. I'm surprised the Professor didn't think of that. . .

This peaceful beach is good for sunbathing but we were told to be careful in the water because although it may look calm, there can be a strong current. Hardly anyone was there; we had it almost to ourselves. A picturesque beach with its classic crescent shape – can totally see how it made it onto tv.

Only a few miles off the main highway on a paved road. At the end of the road there are some houses and a small lot for parking, then it's about a few hundred feet to the beach sign then stepping on a few rocks to traverse a shallow stream and you're on the beach. On the day we visited there was only a young couple with a toddler on the entire beach. The pilot episode of the TV show Gilligan's Island was filmed here in 1963. Fifty-five years later the beach is still pretty secluded and undeveloped and you can see why they chose this spot as a filming location.
