Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Or visit was prompted more by an interest in visiting the town’s shops, it the bridge was to be a plus. On taking the first few steps up towards the suspended walkway I became a bit concerned about the somewhat decrepit condition of the wooden treads. Upon reaching the top of he stairs we were faced with a barricade and a “bridge closed” sign. The nearby shop had a jar for donations and I dropped in $10,00. Considering it would be hundreds of 1,000 to actually rebuild that landmark, it will likely never get done.

The Swinging Bridge may not be a tremendous highlight of your Kauai trip, but if you find yourself in Hanapepe (which you should) please take a moment and walk across. It provides an unique experience and is worth the diversion.

When we visited there was an art vendor at the opposite end and although we did not purchase anything the photography was great.

The swinging bridge in Hanapepe was a fun side trip on our way back to our resort in Poipu after a road trip to Polihale State Beach. The town of Hanapepe has cute shops and some food options and feels like a quaint quirky artist village. We walked around for about 30 minutes and window shopped and then walked across the bridge which was really beautiful. I of course wanted to make the bridge swing more but there are signs warning against rocking so I just walked quickly to the other side and back again. Old and young were doing it and there was no line or crowds...just a fun touristy thing to do and see some countryside and the many small towns of Kauai.

We stopped to visit the swinging bridge. It doesn't lead to anywhere except across the narrow river. We were also interested in the Friday Night Art walk held in Hanapepe but since Covid, the nights have been cancelled.

With high trade winds today, the bridge was really swinging. My kids had a blast but as someone who isn’t a huge fan of bridges to begin with, it was too much for me. Not very high bridge, just extra shakes and wobbly.

As noted by others here, this structure has seen better days. The sign notifying of the closure is hung on a fence closing off the actual deck, and is not visible until you climb up the approach staircase. By then I was dreading crossing, as the stair threads and supports were rickety. Finding it closed, my adventurous ego was saved, as I was forced back, honest.

I had high hopes to visit this little bridge unfortunately we could only stand to the side and view. There were so many people standing in the middle viewing the water we didn’t have time to wait. * 15 people max allowed at one time. Maybe next time-

Took the local bus to Swinging Bridge, really nothing there, just an old bridge and a few stores n galleries. I would not waste my time. I like the suspension bridge at Cataract Gorge in Launceston, Tasmania. Lovely.
Yes, you can take the bus here but local bus will make a loop to town before dropping you off at the West Pharmacy(where you get off). To catch a return bus, you need to cross the stress and catch the bus (opposite route) to get back to downtown Kauai. Kauai is beautiful but most hotel and food are expensive. Once is good.

We stopped to check out the swinging bridge on our way back from Waimea Canyon. It was literally less than a 10 minute stop to walk across and back over the Hanapepe river on the swinging bridge and to snap a few pictures. My 4 year old was both scared and amazed, so that was fun. Worth the quick stop if you’re in the area, but I wouldn’t drive across the island for it.

We ended up in historic old Hanapepe while waiting for a restaurant to open for dinner. In the meantime, we wandered and found the old bridge. It is a one directional bridge, so you need to wait while people choose to go one direction or the other. Also, no more than 15 people on it at a time, although it bounced plenty with just 4 or so of us on it.
