While there, a lady who had been attacked by a pit bull was asked by a female clerk why she had been attacked since pit bulls are such sweet animals. Honestly, that coloured everything else since I felt that was so rude and presumptuous. So, I felt the clerk was overly forward and familiar, which, for me, is not a... More

My family went to Hanapepe to walk around a small Kauai town on a Friday, right before the Friday Night art walk. This is a great, cute independent bookstore, with a lot of books on Hawaii, Hawaiin culture, history, etc, in addition to non-Hawaii books. I have been to the popular and very Manhattan Strand Book store, and this (also)... More

If you love books, you don't want to miss a stop here. There's a shop cat, the owners are super friendly, there are new and used books, the lay-out is great and it smells like a book store!

This is the best side of Hanapepe. You have the best gallery and the coolest bookstore across the street from each other. The couple that run the book store were awesome to talk with and they recommended some perfect beach reading books! This town has personality!

Billed as the "western most independent bookstore in the US" Owner was very personable and great help in guiding our book selection. Nice selection of new and used books.

After returning from a boat tour in Port Allen, I drove to Hanapepe to check out the Talk Story bookstore. They have a good selection of books of all genres, including books about Hawaii, and the shop cat even made an appearance! Also a quick walk to the swinging bridge that crosses the Hanapepe river.

12 years in the making and it's wonderful! The wide variety of used and new books is amazing. Hawaiiana, historical, children's, cooking and you may get lucky and find a long lost treasure. Owners Ed & Cynthia Justus or the staff will welcome you with Aloha or maybe a hug if you've been stopping in over the years. Friday night... More

This is the USA's farthest west independent bookstore, and the owners have made an effort to have "something for everybody" on their shelves. Browsing here was a delight.

This book store is very comprehensive with many up-to-date-titles over many subjects. It is well organized and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Well stocked bookstore with friendly helpful staff located in a most unlikely place. There used to be many independent bookstores before the chains drove them out of business. This bookstore is a throwback to the times before the chains and Amazon - most such places have closed; this gem of a place seems vibrant. A place where you can ask... More
