About
ALL OF OUR PROFESSIONAL GUIDES ARE FULLY VACCINATED! Explore the worlds most active volcano with one of our professional, award winning guides - get away from the big bus and van tours and get out into the field to visit areas that few visitors get to see while visiting Hawai'i island! No gift shops, no restaurants, no long drives around the island in a van to visit areas you can explore on your own. No gimmicks and no frills - all of our time is spent exploring the amazing active volcanoes of Hawai'i island! We offer only active, education based explorations that focus on topics such as Geology, native flora and fauna, and the amazing Hawaiian culture that still thrives on the volcano today. Our tours are family friendly, easy to book and leave our guests with a deepened understanding of the science and the culture of Kīlauea. Our National Park tours allow guests the convenience of using their own vehicle as opposed to a large bus or van. An experience you will never forget!

There were several tours researched and my wife and I selected this one. We were so happy with our choice. Our guide, Eric, is a geologist, and his expertise added greatly to the tour. Without the deeper understanding of the environment and what you are observing, you could miss the appreciation of Mother Nature and what she is capable of. All the guidance of where to meet and what to expect were clear and accurate. Kilauea EcoGuides is excellent and I would highly recommend them. And, Kilauea should be high on your list of things to do.

Erik was amazing. We learned so much, saw a bunch of the park without crowds. My teen even enjoyed herself and loved the tour, which is high praise! Avoid the crowds, book this tour and enjoy the Park!

Aloha Teleosurd and thank you for your review! While our guides are experts on Kilauea volcano, and take the educational aspects very seriously, they do love to mix a little fun and humor in while out on the trails. We are very happy to hear that you do feel that our private tours are worth the time and cost as the experiences we provide for our guests are much different than what most other tour companies offer. Mahalo for your recommendation!

Aloha Becky E! Thank you for your review of your private tour of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and we are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your day exploring Kilauea volcano. We love to explore as many trails as possible while on the tour, and tend to focus on trails that most of the big group tours do not explore. One of our goals on tour is for our guests to leave with a deepened understanding of the volcano from both the cultural and scientific perspectives, so we are excited that you appreciated that aspect of the tour. Mahalo for your recommendation!

What an incredible day! My husband and I are traveling with our 1yr old daughter and wanted a tour of HVNP but needed the schedule flexibility of a private tour. This tour offered that and so much more. From the booking process (Malia was so kind to help us reschedule our tour date due to the imminent government shutdown) to the tour itself- everything was superb. We were fortunate to be assigned Erik as our guide (owner and lead guide) who offered an educational and well thought out experience. Thank you Erik & team for the care and passion behind your tours! We had such a memorable visit. Book your tour, today!

What an excellent experience we had with Erik as our tour guide! He is very knowledgeable about all aspects of the park and the things we saw. From the plant life, the volcano, the history and the area in general. Erik answered all of our questions and was patient with even the basic of questions. You will not be disappointed! We did not have to fight crowded areas to see and learn about the park, it was nice having our own personal guide. The volcano was still erupting while we were there so we were lucky enough to witness such an incredible event, from a very safe distance of course. Erik and his company were also excellent with communication before during and after our tour. I can’t say enough wonderful things about our day! Mahalo!!!

Aloha gatorgirlinga and thank you for your review! One of our goals is to always try to avoid the big bus and van crowds as much as possible while exploring Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. And if eruption conditions allow, viewing the eruption is always a priority. We are also very glad to hear that you were happy with the communication before and after the tour as great customer service is our goal from the initial contact to the end of the tour and beyond. Mahalo for your recommendation!

Jay was amazing and clearly passionate with the culture and the beauty of his adopted home and the magnificent force of nature. Without his immeasurable knowledge, walking through the trails would have been a limited experience. Highly recommend- pls do this tour if you are curious from the different types of crater, to how lava splatters create a cone, to the tallest mountain in the world is right here in the Big Island. Can’t say enough how worth it this tour was - you do not have to think of when to go, where to park, what to bring - Heed your tour guide’s advice and be in awe.

Our family spent an incredible three hours with Erik touring Volcanoes National Park. He put so much thought and care into teaching our family about the geological and Hawaiian history at the volcano, and kept our young boys asking questions and exploring. Erik’s tour was a highlight of our time on the Bid Island, and we can’t wait to come back.

Amazing and informative tour! Our guide, Jay, was wonderful. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the volcano, native plants, wildlife, and Hawaiian culture. He supervised the guide training in the park for many years and even developed many of the exhibits! Our family really enjoyed it. We learned a lot! Highly recommend!

Aloha Michigan mom and thank you for your review! Jay is one of our most requested guides and it is true he has trained almost every other guide in the park during his time as a park ranger. And he has designed many of the signs, exhibits and trail guides that still exist in the park today. We are very fortunate to have him on our team and take pride in the educational aspects that all of our guides can provide to our guests. Mahalo for your recommendation!

Our family of five (2 grownup parents + 3 boys age 5, 9, 11) went on a private 5 hr tour with Erik. We had a lovely, wonderful time. This was our 2nd time at Volcanoes. Erik was very thoughtful to understand how to make his tour additive to the experience we already had since we wanted to experience new areas of this stunning and rich national park. We all are curious about many different aspects of Volcanoes including: Hawaiian culture, Hawiian mythology, the fauna, the birds, the geology/volcanology. Erik's knowledge was incredibly in-depth in ALL of these areas. He quickly gauged everyone's physical stamina to recommend excellent hikes for us, and knew when to pivot on a dime to challenge the kids a bit more by extending our first hike. He was incredibly attentive to everyone's questions. And we had LOTS of them. My five year old loved calling out, "Erik, what's this?" many..many times. (Oh bless his patience.) He was an overall pleasure to be around for 5 hours which I think is hard to say for even people near and dear to you. And we appreciated how extremely generous he was with his knowledge, clear in his storytelling, and intentional with how he broke down more complicated scientific concepts while showing pictures to our little ones. One of our favorite memories of the Big Island will be hunting for Pele's hairs and reticulite with Erik near a very secluded fissure and spatter rampart wall in a Mars-like lanscape filled with cinder and green spots of young ohia trees. For whoever wants to visit Volcanoes, and truly see and learn about the land, the Hawaiian people, and what is magically happening underneath that cracked surface, I would only recommend one private tour, and that's Kilauea EcoGuides. Thank you, Erik and Malia!

Aloha akh78 and thank you for the review of your private tour of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park! All of our guides are always happy and excited to answer any question our guests have, as well as making our explorations with families fun and educational for everyone in the party. We also enjoy sharing the connection between the fascinating science behind the volcano paired with the equally important cultural dynamics. Mahalo for your recommendation, we appreciate it very much!
