The bad thing: the golf carts. While it is wonderful that they are able to help people with limited mobility enjoy the garden, it was really a pain to have to keep stepping to the side and hear the noise. But other than that, this...More

When I think botanical garden I think of manicured lawns with flowers and greenhouses. Fortunately, this is not that. This is truly an amazing area with numerous exotic trees, plants and flowers after the next in a very lush and naturalistic setting (despite the paved...More

This is actually for anyone who is visiting the island and who wants to get a sense of all the magical plants, trees, orchids, and bushes that are grown here. I live on this island and make a point of taking my visiting family and...More

At first glance it didn't look like much, but we were soo surprised! The visit was WELL worth it. It's a beautiful garden that contains the most magical view of the cliffs, rocks, blow hole, and ocean...if you can make it down the trail. Most...More

Had a fantastic time at the Botanical Garden today! A few things to note: -One, be prepared for one heck of a walk down. There were points that were at "extreme" angles so be cautioned that the decent is quite steep. -Two, while it is...More

I'm not usually a fan of botanical gardens, and there are many good places to see plants on the Big Island, so I was skeptical when my friends said she really wanted to pay to visit this. I was wrong. It is a pleasant way...More

I went here for my wife, but ended up loving it myself! This place has such a concentration of sites it overwhelms it a great way. Yes there are beautiful flowers, but the combination of flowers, plants, trees, waterfalls, birds, and ocean views makes for...More

Beautiful garden, much bigger than I was expecting and so much variety in terms of plants and flowers. This time of year seems especially colourful. Only reason I'm not giving 5 * is because it was expensive to get in ($18 per person) but I...More

These gardens are well maintained with a wide variety of tropical plants, the orchids being especially beautiful. Set in a valley leading down to the ocean there are waterfalls and a stream adding to the tranquility of the gardens. The Macaws are a colourful point...More

While exploring Hilo, we opted to stop in to visit the botanical gardens. The variety of plants was breathtaking & we found that it made for a pleasant change of scenery. One thing to keep in mind is that there are quite a bit of...More

I have absolutely no idea. I was much more interested in looking at flowers and plants, enjoying the scenery, the ambiance and the beauty. I had my camera and was taking pictures. Put your phone away and enjoy the... More

Can anyone tell me how the drive is from Waikoloa to the botanical gardens? For instance , I'm glad I used a tour bus to go to Hilo due to some of the narrow and winding roads . Is this a straight ride or is it up mountains with narrow roads also?

We enjoyed the drive there. If you aren't already aware of the Kapoho tidal pools south of Hilo, you really need to check them out. Get a mask and snorkel and go for it!

What food/snacks are served on this tour? We are trying to find a tour that will include horseback riding as well. We won't have a car there and want to see the gardens, falls, and valley of kings w/horseback riding. Any suggestions?

There was a nice packed turkey wrapped sandwich on the horseback tour to the water fall. Nothing fancy, but nice. They check with our needs before the tour. I don't recall food with the garden, but we found a great little... More
