You can walk right in and walk around this area in about 15 minutes but there really isn't much to see. I guess because there is so much more on the island to look at that is more representative of the lava, we found this really lacking. The good thing is there is a good public restroom here and when we went by there was a local art class taking place under the pavilion.

We really enjoyed this walk about in the Lava Tree state park. There are lots of interesting things to stop and see and snap photos of along the way. Plus...it's lava! the trees and the foliage and the park and the nature are well worth the visit. We had a lot of fun here and totally enjoyed it.

....if you are already in the southeast 'corner' of the island. I wouldn't go any long distance out of my way just to see this, but we rented a house relatively nearby so our stop was on-the-way.

If you do stop (and there are no tour buses!) slow down, relax and enjoy the place. It's well-maintained and very interesting. Get the camera out , stand quietly and try to get a photo of some of the unusual birds you'll see. 15 minutes---really?---I guess you could speed-walk and get back to your car that quickly--but why? We spent quite a while here, enjoyed every second of it and go some really nice flora/fauna photos--stuff you may not get anywhere else!

So, visit this park if you're in the neighborhood--but if you're a "wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am" kinda visitor....at least talk quietly and don't disturb the crazy people trying to savor this very nice slice of the outdoors.

The park was very quaint and nice. Definitely worth a stop to see the hollowed out volcanic rock that used to be wrapped around trees. The park is well maintained and a 10-20 minute walk will get you all around the loop. The added benefit of adding this to your itinerary is the fact that it's very, very close to the new lava floes from Fissure 8 from 2018. Super cool stuff.

Not sure if you have heard, but there are this large land snails in this area. They're very cool looking, but they also carry a brain-eating amoeba. Take photos, but don't pick them up!

This park suffered considerable wind damage a few years ago, and the large towering Monkeypod Trees are no longer overshadowing the park. Paved trails throughout the park are easily covered in an hour or 2. Interesting lava covered trees and a few exposed lava tubes can be found in this tropical paradise. As suggested by the title, the invasive Coqui Frogs are always present. These tiny frogs are very loud, but rarely seen.

We enjoyed this park, it seems like we were the only people at the park when we went! Later we saw 2-3 more people in the park. We enjoyed looking at the lava trees. We drove 1.5hr to get to this park, I'll not recommend this long drive for this park though! If you are in that area, do go there.

Was free and on our way to lunch so we popped in for a quick visit, it’s small but pleasant not really what I would class as a must see.

I have never seen lava in these formations and they were interesting. Very few people there and there was plenty of parking.

This is a small state park in the Pahoa area and is worth a stop if you are down that way, which we were, to look at the lava flows following last years eruption. The park is small so will only take you 20-30 mins to walk around but it is well maintained and paved so good for all ages and abilities and it is really interesting to see the lava trees! Definitely take time after to go and see the lava flows - there is still a road closed about 1/4 mile from the park (turn left out of the park entrance) and its incredible to see and also worth driving Route 137 coast road which is really pretty and also has more evidence of the lava flows.

Free parking. Self guided tour (although I saw a tour group so guided tours are available). It’s a short, easy walk along a paved path. Some neat flora, and placards describing the geological processes that formed the lava trees. Worth it if you’re in the area and have 20-30 minutes to kill but if a tour company wants a lot of money to show you around you’re better off on your own.
