We took the 5 am tour in February 2017. The captain gets the boat so close to the lava that you can feel the heat. It is about a 28 mile round trip from the launch site at Isaac Hale Park to where the lava spills into the ocean. This is not a trip for the timid. The boat seats... More

Took the 7:30 lava tour on February 17th. Great experience! At first I was a bit hesitant going on such a large boat, with 40+ people, but it turned out to be great. It's a big boat that is built for these tours. We got up close and personal with the firehose eruption. We were amazed at how close we... More

My husband and I took the sunrise tour on Lava Ocean tours last week. What an experience! We we up close and personal with the lava flow (which at the time of our trip was amazing). Definitely recommend getting up early and doing the sunrise trip. The contrast between the darkest part of the day and the sunrise is something... More

This tour is a must-do when on the Big Island. Don't take a helicopter tour or attend a luau until you ride with Captain Shane to the lava flow! This is an experience not available anywhere in the world, and definitely was the highlight of our trip. I would do it again on a heartbeat!

Took a 9:30 tour with my wife and it was the best boat trip that we have ever taken We did the helicopter trip as well but if you can only do one or the other, Do theLavaOcean Tour. The lava is flowing and you won't see anything like it anywhere in the world right now. You really get an... More

This really was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and we wouldn't have missed it for anything. The whole experience was much more impressive than we expected it to be -- and I have to say that the captain took us MUCH closer to the magma flow than we ever thought possible. I actually had to take the zoom lens OFF my camera!... More

My husband and I took the 4:30 lava tour on Feb 15, 2017. It was fantastic!!! The ride out was great that day (we were actually scheduled for Feb 14th but the tour was canceled due to ocean conditions). They get you so close you can feel the heat from the lava and the water temperature is greatly increased. The... More

We are local and live only 12 miles from the flow. We bike out the flow every couple weeks. Seeing the Fire Hose from the water side was exceptionally better! The captain and crew were friendly, direct, and made sure everyone got a good view of the flow. They brought us close, but made sure we were safe and the... More

This was a once in a lifetime view of the fire hose lava flow now occurring on Hawaii. The crew was supurb, the boat comfortable and the view beyond my expectations. The boat was an "up close and personal" experience without the 9 mile round trip hike to the viewing stand 1000 ft. away. This is a MUST DO on... More

Since January 3rd or so, according to captain Shane Turpin and his mate Jake, the fire house of lava has been flowing like a fire waterfall off the cliff into the sea, occasionally exploding into blasts of fire and brimstone. You can feel the heat, and sample the warm water in the area. Oh, and the boat ride in the... More
