Gary the guide was wonderful. Talked about the geology of the cavern and had a lot of interesting stories to tell. The lighted part of the cave is small but large enough to see what lava tubes are. They have longer cave tours that are for hardier people who don't mind a little crawling and walking on uneven ground. The... More

My husband and I were so glad we did this. Gary was an amazing tour guide and made you feel welcome with suggestions for other things to do and see on the island as well as answering all of our questions about the island. We booked this last minute and were so glad we did. You will be, too. (We... More

Caverns or lava tube(s) used by early Hawaiians who left remnants of their way of life. Helmets/headlights/water provided. We took the 2 hour tour that really lasted almost 4 hours--so plan according. Started at 10 and finished at 1:50--no regrets at all because we had no other plans for the day. Thankful it was only myself and my sister on... More

My husband and I had the best time visiting the caverns! Victor was an amazing guide. He was funny, energetic, and extremely knowledgeable. We learned a lot about volcanoes, lava tubes, and Hawaiian history. We did the 2 hour excursion and was glad we did!

Took the 2 hour tour with Gary yesterday. It turned into 3 hours total with great prep and some history which is all very worth the time. Such amazing sights and history. Don't be scared off by the short amount of crawling on this tour. Our group was all folks in their late 60's and 50's and e everyone did... More

This was an extremely interesting and informative trip thanks to our guide Gary. We only went on the short tour but if that is any indication of what the longer tour would be like I would say if you have the time you should do it, we were on a time crunch so we couldn't. You will learn a lot... More

Great tour, very educational and fun! Our guide Gary was a wealth of information and jokes! We did the 30 minute tour but it actually lasted an hour. Great activity for all ages! If Gary is your guide he'll ask if you want recommendations on things to do on The Big Island...take him up on it, we did and we... More

This was a three hour extended tour that required about 20' of crawling, but the rest was pretty easy walking through lava tubes. The tour included hard hats with lights, gloves, knee pads and water. These lava tubes are really unique in the complexity and beauty of the features. We have toured many lava tubes and limestone and marble caves... More

I have been coming to the Big Island for over 11 years and had never heard of the Kula Kai Caverns. I just happened to pick up a brochure one day and thought it looked interesting. We took the 2 hour tour and it was worth it. You just need to make sure that you have long pants and closed... More

We had such a great time. Victor was our guide and he was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour too. We're so glad we chose the 2hr tour rather than the half hour tour - we got to crawl through some tricky places and up and down a "lava fall". We visited the cavern prior... More
