The right way to see Waipio Valley (short of hiking)

We were picked up on time at the Neptune Garden meeting spot. It was a muggy hot day and the van air conditioning was broken. Van smelled of stale cigarettes. Windows only opend a small crack and back 2 windows didn't open at all. It was a very unconfortable 1/2 hour ride down into the valley in the van. Mule... More

Waipio Valley is inhabited by a small group of counter-culture folks "living off the grid", and I believe this tour captures that spirit nicely. This is not the polished, slick, everything runs like clock-work tour. This is essentially a one-man operation (Bob), who has been living in the valley for 27 years. His van is old but seems reliable, his... More

Our party of four has a 5 year old traveling with us. He loved drive, the wild horses, the wagon ride and the flowers.

I really wanted to take my family on this tour of Waipio Valley and called this place 3 times in 3 days, left messages that I wanted to book a tour on a certain date and waited several more days for them to return my calls. They never did. I went on their website and found I could book any... More

Took the valley tour. Fun 25%grade to get to the valley floor, then the wagon and mules trip. Driver Bob knew the history and flora, the ride was fun, and we got to see a rare side of Hawaii.

This was a waste of 2 hrs, wait, no it wasn't it was actually a waste of 1.5 hrs. We went to the pick up spot at 12 expecting a 1215 pick up. The guy was late and didn't arrive until 1230. Then he kept asking "are you all here?" I said since I didn't know who else might have... More

Met Lance at the Last Chance Store before loading up in the van for the trip into the Waipi'o valley. The road into the valley is a 25% grade and not for the faint of heart! Once in the valley we were tranfered to the mule wagon. We were treated to a very personal tour and enjoyed hearing the history... More

Very much the adventure-not for those who want luxury. With that you get beauty and nature. Expect the natural beauty of the back woods and views of cliffs and waterfalls. The van isn't fancy or cool. It's just transportation to the wagon. The wagon is an open air wagon drawn by beautiful, sweet mules. Bob was full of information about... More

Bob, our guide and owner picked us up at the Neptune Gardens in an older 4x4 van to traverse the steep ride down into the valley then crossed a water way to drop us off to wait while he went to get the wagon and mule team. The wagon was clean and comfortable with steps to get on in the... More

We were picked up at Neptune's Gardens by a friendly, personal driver in a 4x4 van. We traversed the steep, narrow road to Waipi'o Valley. When we reached the village, our driver transferred us to a mule drawn wagon where we crossed rivers and had spectacular views of the waterfalls. Our driver/guide was knowledgeable and interesting. A tour through primitive... More
